Re: Conference Schedule predictions

Apparently you guys are saying that the Flagship will be in drydock this year. It may not be too late to float this boat, but time is running out. Maybe we need this year to right the ship.

Yes, we absolutely should have beaten them, but it's not like we lost to Central Connecticut State. Canisius is 9-4 with losses to Syracuse, UNLV (hung with them until late), a very solid Detroit team, and Stony Brook, who was preseason #2 in America East just a few votes behind Vermont. I dont know what a head scratcher win even means, but this is the 5th straight year Temple has beaten a top 10 team out of conference. Temple let MCW shoot all he wanted and ate up Cuse's zone.
Sory - I will elaborate a little. Canisius was a head scratcher (to me) because you should have won the game. Temple had a bad night - which you are entitled to - then you played the complete opposite of that versus Syracuse. Great rebound performance, so which team is Temple in the long haul? I suspect that you are the better version.

So the question to you is - did YOU lose to Canisius because they are Canisius - were you looking past them to Syracuse or did Temple really just have a bad night?

I'm scratching my head....

Saint Louis 12-4 (NCAA)

Butler 10-6 (NCAA)
Dayton 10-6 (NIT)

It would've been easier if you just said Temple needs to play consistently well.

Re: Conference Schedule predictions

I think I'd put it at:
1. SLU - Once they reintegrate Mitchell, I think they'll be tough even without Majerus. Mitchell's one of the best players in the conference when he's healthy.
2. Butler - They're already doing better than I thought so maybe they belong in position 1.
3. VCU - I think they'll have issues with their physical D on the road in conference this year, will be interesting to see how they deal with that.
4. Temple - If Wyatt and Randall can get on track shooting, maybe they'll do better, otherwise that eventually limits them.
5. La Salle - Still a bit weak inside, but better overall. I have little faith in their coach, but the team has enough talent to finish higher.
6. St. Joes - Strange to see them struggle so much recently. They should be better.
7. Dayton - Not sure what to make of this team, now that the AL road win looks less impressive. Will they be able to win tough ones on the road?
8. Charlotte - They're a limited team, but will be in most games this year until the end in a sneaky way. Plus, the sched is actually semi-favorable for a mid-table finish, since they get most of the other middle teams at home (X, SJU, Umass, LSU, Dayton) and road games against teams I'm guessing are lower (Duq, Bonnies, URI, Rich, GW). Doesn't mean they win all those 10 games plus Fordham, but it's set up well for them if they take advantage.
9. Umass - They are capable of playing top of the conference ball. And then playing bottom-four caliber ball right after. Most inconsistent team I've ever seen. They'd be scary good if they figured out how to play well more consistently, but I don't see it happening this year.
10. Xavier - If everyone stays healthy and they learn to avoid foul trouble, this is way too low. But I'm dubious and think they will struggle on the road in conference and by the end of the season.
11. Richmond - I thought they were better, but the blowouts combined with the home loss to Davidson have made me doubtful.
12. St. Bonaventure - Not sure what to make of this team. Lose by a lot or win by a lot it seems. They tear up weak opponents pretty well.
13. URI - I'm not sure they're not better than this either. But youth will take it's toll in them losing winnable games.
14. Duquesne - I think they'll get exposed eventually, but are overachieving so far.
15. GW - Look pretty deficient so far. At least a year away? Surprised Lonergan isn't getting more heat for coaching to this point (at least on here, maybe GW fans are less sanguine).
16. Fordham - With Gaston back, they might be better, but the "talent" around him is still much too subpar. Discouraging that Pecora isn't doing better yet.

Obviously I'm biased, but I'll take Temple or Xavier to win the regular season title every year until it doesn't happen.

Seems reasonable except SJU doesn't really have the depth to make it to the NIT this year. I figure the Explorers will win 11 or 12 A10 conference games. The games I fear the most are after the one week layoffs.

Some of the pieces are there, but I don't think many people realized how unprepared many of the Hobbs leftovers were when it came to actually understanding how to play basketball at the DI level. Considering Lonergan didn't have any offseason to work with the players (and recruit) in his first season, I certainly don't have him anywhere near a hot seat. The players he's brought in this year are quality guys and there's been a marked improvement in the team during the non-con schedule. There are still disappointments (Mount St. Mary's), but I'm optimistic.

Re: Conference Schedule predictions

1.) Temple (14-2) NCAA
2.) SJU (13-3) NCAA
3.) VCU (11-5) NCAA
4.) Butler (11-5) NCAA
5.) La Salle (10-6) NCAA- Winner of the A10 Tourney
6.) Dayton (10-6) NIT
7.) Bona (9-7)....CBI
8.) X (9-7) CBI
9.) SLU (9-7) NIT
10.) UMass (9-7) NIT
11.) Rich (6-10)
12.) Duq (5-11)
13.) Charlotte (5-11)
14.) GW (3-13)
15.) Rhody (2-14)
16.) Fordham (1-15)

I really think La Salle has a shot at an NCAA berth this year. I have Rhody pegged at 15th, but I think they have a shot to win five or six games. They seem to be in a lot of games, just not able to close them out.

I am obviously biased towards Bona, but anyone that follows SBU knows they pick it up near the end of the year during conference play. They haven't been too impressive to me this year, but I think they have enough weapons to knock off a few top teams @ the RC this winter.

My breakdown on Bona's Schedule:
@GW--W(1-0)
VCU--W(2-0)
XAV--W(3-0)
@TEMPLE--L(3-1)
@SJU--L(3-2)
SLU--W(4-2)
DUQ--W(5-2)
@BU--L(5-3)
@RI--L(5-4)
LAS--L(5-5)
@RICH--W(6-5)
UMASS--W(7-5)
@DUQ--L(7-6)
CHAR--W(8-6)
@DAY--L(8-7)
FOR--W(9-7)

Bonnies would be really good if they could shoot the ball even reasonably well. Every game I've seen this year, they've missed everything they threw up, but looked strong in most every other way.

Charlotte will not pay to play in the CBI. I'll take 9-7 though.
