Re: WTF $500 Milly to C7?
0%. The Pioneer league is non-scholarship, so their first step should logically be scholarship FCS, but that then plays into Title IX issues. After that, they can then think about FBS scholarship football. I just don't see that happening. UD has been non-scholarship football since sometime in the 70s, I believe. I don't think that will change anytime soon.

Re: WTF $500 Milly to C7?
The point my fellow spider was making is valid and I've been saying all along.
The riches the C7 hopes to mine, and lol pay less (...at first), should get together and invite the C7 (or members) to join them. Pick your favorites in the new Super Elite basketball league, Dayton, SLU, Xavier, Creighton, Wichita State, Gonzaga, St. Marys, Richmond, VCU, extend to Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, DePaul, St. Joes, whatever. C7 dictating terms is funny because how fans, ADs, Presidents etc are rolling over and accepting of it. Point is, what else are they going do? Sign up George Mason and Belmont and wither on the vine? Good luck keeping Fox to honor that 500 milly without Xavier and the other schools they'll "let" join them. Yes, the refrain is who would turn them down? We all get that. The irony is the real "players" are letting them dictate the action instead of seizing the opportunity and doing it themselves. What parties in the C7 would be saying is exactly the same thing "but who can turn them down" when they have no where else to go.

Re: WTF $500 Milly to C7?
Because your definition of value is wrong.
The new league is going to generate a huge contract not because of the individual basketball teams, but because the basketball teams in those specific markets. There's literally no non-FBS program on the planet that Xavier or Butler could pair with that provide the value of Georgetown, St Johns, Villanova, and DePaul. Not to mention your understanding of "making less" is incorrect. All leagues have that sort of thing. Nebraska is right there with Ohio State and Michigan as it relates to Big Ten value and even they are receiving a smaller share than Northwestern for a short period of time. ---------- Lets just stop with the A10 banding together and setting off on its own thing. Even if there was ANYTHING banding the programs together (and Creighton), there's absolutely no motivation for the schools that are already in. Whatever than trimmed A10 would be, it cold only ever hope to generate a fractional offer than what's on the table. |

Re: WTF $500 Milly to C7?
Much to be negotiated in coming months: Exit fees? Start date? BE name? MSG in March? Lots of stuff to go fight out in court or settle. The package being presented to TV is a strong BB only league in major cities. The $500 million shocked everybody but nobody wants to broadcast BE Football. Fox sees an opening, needs the content and is going for it.

Would think the 3.47 mill for the C7 for 12 years with 12 teams will be less per school for football.Of course saying 500 million makes it sound larger and it's 3 million more than in the A10, which is very nice.

Re: WTF $500 Milly to C7?
Absent a concrete report of what each school in the new conference is getting/giving up, it is just conjecture that A10 schools who might join are getting screwed somehow.
The media $ are the largest factor, and assumedly schools like Butler, X, etc. understand their value in putting together a total inventory package for Fox or whoever. It would seem reasonable that they would be able to negotiate from their own position of strength in that situation and not be "screwed over" by the C7 as the final deal is struck. For example: if departing A10 schools pay exit fees and give up NCAA credits accumulated, but the BE schools with dissolution get to keep their credits and not pay any exit fees, then that would lead to a more balanced approach of dividing future revenues. Until we see actual numbers, the idea that the A10 schools are getting the shaft is just supposition.

Reading between the lines (perhaps incorrectly), I believe he might be alluding to VCU. |

I don't get the feeling you do on VCU, but would certainly welcome them. In terms of Dayton/StLouis, why do you say Dayton? From a market standpoint, St. Louis would be more logical, no?
