Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
Agreed because their schedule is very favorable. The only games that should give them pause are SLU and Temple away and Butler at home. Sure they'll lose a game on the road just because (Richmond or Charlotte?) but they will still be the #1 seed for the tournament. Most likely the Butler game will decide the 1 vs 2 seed.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
VCU was the better team. They are really deep and the havoc is real. I also thought there were some really bad calls in the second half that went in VCU's favor. Dayton will still be good. On to the next one.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
This game had the same feel as the road game against St Joe in 2004. No matter how good UD played, they were not going to beat VCU on their floor. I don't think anyone will.
I like a lot of what UD did today. Dillard was outstanding considering he played the entire game at gunpoint. Oliver had a pretty good night. Dyshawn Pierre was everywhere on the floor. Price looked good. Robinson was impressive inside. Derenbecker gave good minutes. VCU is just better. Tip your cap and move on. Realize you are capable of doing high level things against a high level team in a ridiculous environment, and take that effort to the next 15 games. If UD does it, they'll be just fine.

VCU sure is good. Their best two players had serious foul trouble and they still did their thing. Welcome to the A-10, Rams III.

You must have been watching a different game. 1 asst. to 7 TO's and getting beat off the dribble pretty consistently doesn't seem outstanding to me. He hit some big 3's toward that later part of the 2nd half to keep them from being blown out but I thought he missed some oppt.'s to dish and pick up assts.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
I agree with A10fan2- I didn't watch the game, but I don't think I've ever seen a point guard's play consisting of 7 turnovers and 1 assist against an unranked team described as outstanding.
But I'm scared to see what VCU's pressure will do to younger A-10 guards (like Davis) if that's what they did to Dillard.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
Good game Dayton. It was nice of Bernadette McGlade to be present to welcome us in our first A-10 contest.
Dayton has a good team that will win a lot of games this year. The front court duo of Oliver and Benson combined with Sanford and Dillard in the back court makes this team a tough out for anybody. Although Dayton never led, the game was pretty tight for about 3/4 of the game before we stretched the lead to double-digits. Dayton executed very nicely against our press and was outstanding on offense before they got tired and the offense sputtered down the stretch. I was very impressed with the game Dayton played. That was a high-level game between 2 good teams and I think I understand a little bit better what many of you were saying about the difference between CAA and A-10 competition. I have a lot of respect for Archie Miller and his team. Good game and best of luck going forward when it's not against my Rams.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
I didn't watch the game so my question is: how many of Dillard's turnovers were Weber steals? A10 fans who are unfamiliar with VCU may have been arguing over whether Henry or Jett was the best defensive player in the league but when they see Weber they'll know the answer to that particular question.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
Briante Weber had 9 out of VCU's 15 steals tonight. I don't think it's a matter of who's the best defender in the A-10. Briante Weber is among the very best in the country.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
That's just piling on. When a fan of another team is hyping your team's player you should just let it go. But if you were to respond it would be better if you actually added some information that was asked for...like HOW MANY OF DILLARD'S TURNOVERS WERE WEBER STEALS?

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
Didn't see as much of Theus, but Weber was quite impressive, DB. He was everywhere - not only in the press but even more in the halfcourt. It had me wishing Theus wasn't in foul trouble.
The guy I really liked was Brandenburg, not because he was the best, but because what an "other" guard this guy is. He is probably the 3rd wing behind #30 and #21, but he is darn good himself. VCU could have trouble with really good bigs, but there aren;t many in the A10. |
