Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
HAHA. Chris, this was pretty funny. I have to agree that he is one of the most biased broadcasters of all time. And he loves to talk about his nephew, Johnny, at least once a game, for absolutely no reason.

You were missing my point. I'm saying if we could have just knocked one down and kept it close, who knows. It was a combination of good pressure defense and runs (among other things) that cost us the game. I actually wouldn't have minded Archie taking a well timed 'T' to get a point across to the refs. I mean Shaka complains like a Tea Partier & then 3 straight calls against Dayton. No, the officiating ultimately didn't cost the game and I hate using them as an excuse. But last night was borderline bad. Speaking of more points, maybe Kellogg can devise an offense where you score more then 33 against us this year...

wow chris, tongue in cheek bro.
of course if your team hits more shots it would have been closer. thank you captain obvious. speaking of a match up with dayton, we're going to smoke you at the bill later this year, you may as well get used to that idea now.

Conference play is upon us. The trash-talking has begun in earnest I see. haha
Yeah our announcers are some of the worst homers in the history of homers. I honestly hate that they're so biased, but most of our fans listening to them are okay with it since it fits their rooting interests. I totally get how it would grate on an opposing fan listening to them. They grate on me sometimes and I'm a VCU fan.

Fair point, I guess slap an LOL on it or something so I don't take it the wrong way next time. I don't think UMass is going to have as tough a D as we saw last night. The only team that will come close is Temple.

Duquesne's are some of the worst. They actually make fun of the other team during the broadcast, and think every single call against them is a travesty. Some of the least professional radio guys I've ever heard, and that's saying something given some of the other radio guys in the league.

Well we play at Duquesne this year, so that should be fun to evaluate.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
Let me add that what we saw from Dayton last night is what we've seen for many years now @ UD.
We're not going to out coach anyone. Archie Miller isn't going to out coach anyone in this league. Not because he's a bad coach but rather because he isn't experienced. He's learning on the job. Dayton has turned into a training ground for coaches = the minor league. Brian Gregory's lack of experience didn't hurt as much because as we found out--the guy couldn't coach a lick anyways. Dayton had Purnell who did a great job but UD was unable or unwilling to pay him in order to keep him. VCU has a great coach--they found him, they paid him, they're keeping him---job well done. Now some might say the VCU coach lacked serious experience--which is true. However, UD had the money and can easily afford to pay top dollar to attract or keep a coach. If Dayton is not selected to join the new Big East, they have only themselves to blame. As they (UD) filled their pockets with cash they never once considered paying top dollar to attract a high profile or experinced coach(ie St Louis). They were unable to keep Purnell. VCU and Butler was able to retain their coaches. I can see why the new league is considering VCU at perhaps the expense of Dayton. This is an administration that is unable to perform even the simplest of duties, they've yet to figure out an introduction song. In the end their cash grab may have cost themselves millions of dollars..including a chance to be relevant again in college basketball..... Last edited by tman; 01-10-2013 at 07:35 AM. |

That made me chuckle as well. After Jeff Robinson made that intentional foul that basically cost X a home game, he said that it would have been a good foul had Redford missed the shot. He's always reaching for something good to say about X.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ VCU (Wednesday 1/9/13)
No surprises last night. We played pretty well for about 30 minutes which isn't going to cut it against VCU on the road. Regarding the fouls and VCU's treatment of Dillard (we will probably see that strategy in about every game going forward, fyi), I have no complaints. If the refs are letting the players play a physical game, you either man up and match the physicality or you get run out of the gym, which is what happened. I am sure VCU adjusts just fine when the refs call a touchy game.
The atmosphere was great. VCU was a great addition to the A-10. Now we really really need the Butler game. Looking forward to Saturday. |
