Also, our guards are pretty consistent and bring it every night. Has talented Chris Braswell learned to do that yet?

Should be a good game.
Braswell has more off games than we'd like. Thankfully we have a roster full of guys and don't play 1-5.

No, but he has done pretty well against La Salle in the past.

In three games against La Salle:

Shot 43% from the field.
Scored 47 points.
Grabbed 30 rebounds.

I feel good about how he will perform tonight.

Still, your guards scare the hell out of me. I'm hoping our 3 point defense is legit and not just a product of our bad schedule. Snaer for Florida State destroyed us from behind the line, but without his insane performance, I don't think they shot all that well, but I could be wrong.

Niners up 15, La Salle has 20 or 21 offensive rebounds, Niners have 17 Turnovers, still surprised we have this big of a lead.

As soon as I say that, La Salle cuts the lead back down to 8. 5 minutes left.

Refs have no idea what to call. Physical play by both teams, no call, then call touch fouls. Bizarre.

Re: Game Thread: Lasalle @ Charlotte (Wednesday 1/9/13)

Niners win by 9 (74-65), Galloway finished with 23 on something like 7-29 shooting. Niners had 21 Turnovers (or close to that) while La Salle had something like 24 offensive rebounds (according ot our radio guys). Niners did hold La Salle to 32.5% from the field and 13.8% from the 3pt line. Pierria Henry had 20 to lead the Niners.

Nice win for the Niners, happy to hold off the comeback.

Any idea from La Salle fans why your guys didn't foul in the last minute and a half? Seemed like a really strange decision, particularly with the way the Niners often shoot ft's. I thought for sure Giannini would start calling for fouls after La Salle cutting it to 8 with 1:10 left.

Well we did shoot free throws at 71% for the game, which is not too bad. Henry and Nickerson handled the ball mostly as we ran down the clock and they went 14-16 from the stripe. So as long as they had the ball in their hands fouling them was a losing bet.

Re: Game Thread: Lasalle @ Charlotte (Wednesday 1/9/13)

Charlotte needs to clean up the careless/unforced turnovers if we want to finish in the top 5 of A10. The number of La Salle offensive rebounds is concerning, however some of it is attributed to the number long shots taken by the Explorers.

13-2 (1-0) is nice.

Congrats to Charlotte on the win. La Salle was horrendous tonight. Couldn't make shots but to me the difference was the defensive strategy. Giannini was asleep at the wheel, playing man just about the entire game while Henry and others got into the lane at will. Out of Charlotte's 23 two point field goals, I'd say 20 of them were either layups or dunks off of dribble penetration. Giannini might have played zone for two possessions the entire game. Anyone with half a brain can see the way to beat Charlotte is to play a packed-in zone to stop their slashers and make them beat you from the perimeter, but our coach doesn't like zone, so he let a winnable game get away because of it.

I can deal with bad shooting nights. They happen. But when a coach refuses to do what gives his team the best chance to win, that's inexcusable. La Salle will be lucky to get an NIT bid at this point.

Gentleman take a breath. While I agree that the first 20 minutes was probably some of the worst basketball I have ever seen you need a little perspective. In most of the rpi projection I have seen we were picked to be 11-5 in conference play including losing to Charlotte by 7. While I credit Charlotte with their defensive effort we had so many putbacks that did not fall and the three point shooting was awful. Ramone needs to play with some of the control he exhibited in the early part of the season. A lot of forced shots and poor shot selection.

Re: Game Thread: Lasalle @ Charlotte (Wednesday 1/9/13)

I thought this would be a tough game due to the perimeter shooters that La Salle had but Galloway really shot you guys out of it. I haven't seen the Explorers play this year but does he typically pull that often from 5-6 feet behind the arc? Terrible shot selection but I was glad to see him keep shooting them.

Re: Game Thread: Lasalle @ Charlotte (Wednesday 1/9/13)

I think the rest if the a10 saw the best and worst of Charlotte last night.
The first half had Charlotte's defense forcing La Salle into shots they did want to take while Charlotte scored in the paint.
The beginning of the 2nd half exposed Charlotte's inability to score over stretches.

I'm sure the La Salle fans would concur that Charlotte did not see the best that the Explorers had to offer last night.

I question the defensive strategy, the lack of fouling at the end, and the lack of discipline on shot selection. The defense was tight out past the 3 line, which is fine by Charlotte fans, as we seldom hit those anyway. Why not pressure our ballhandlers as they bring it up, then fall back into a tight zone, or even a man defense that shades inside to clog up the lane? We got a lot of turnovers, but we also got a bunch of easy baskets. On the other end, Charlotte played tight on the perimeter, but La Salle's guards didn't adjust to that to drive to the basket much until the 2nd half if I remember right. Instead they just backed up further and shot it. I remain convinced Giannini is a very bad game coach. Even with a thin post, the talent is there for this team to be better.

They did try a zone in the 2nd half, and it was pretty poor, suggesting the players weren't very comfortable in it. Even if you don't like a zone, you still practice one for when you need it, particularly when your post is so thin.
