Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ Dayton (Saturday 1/12/13)
The Gonzaga game will probably tell us a lot about Butler's seed. Pick up another top 10 win and they are probably playing the rest of the year trying for a 2 seed.

I was addressing you and your C7 comments
There was nothing about that game that should prompt you to continue posting, it was in control throughout even without the player of the year favorite. Just move on. |

By the very definition of flagrant, it was dirty.
fla·grant (flgrnt) adj. 1. Conspicuously bad, offensive, or reprehensible: a flagrant miscarriage of justice; flagrant cases of wrongdoing at the highest levels of government. See Usage Note at blatant.

There was nothing about that game that should cause dawgs to post the disparaging remarks he did but I see you must be okay with that.

The important thing is for Clark to be okay and ready for the next game. I would think at the least he got a concussion. Good news is that he was able to hold his head up off the floor just before the medical team got to him, if that counts for anything.

Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ Dayton (Saturday 1/12/13)
Matt definitely was flying in to commit a hard foul (i.e. intent to hurt someone). Anytime you smack a guy in the head it's gonna be a flagrant. What were you guys drinking?

Holy $hit, THIS is the thread you decide to show up on? God forbid you show up on a Xavier thread. Your frontrunning arse hid behind the guise of a busted computer instead of supporting your team while they were down. I wish this had come from one of the regular X posters on here...I could let it pass. Takes big stones to comment on a game you have no interest in but won't comment on your own team when they lose because your Commodore 64 is busted & the city won't buy you a new one.

Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ Dayton (Saturday 1/12/13)
Lets look at the situation objectively. First off, watching the replay in slow or normal speed, its clear Derenbecker had no chance to make a play on the ball, he made a play on Clarke. Its not hard to see that Derenbecker at no point was close to making a play on the ball, so lets throw that argument out. On the other hand, if Derenbecker was truly trying to hurt Clarke, it would/could have been much worse. It was a hard foul, a flagrant foul, but not something that should've resulted in anything other than what was called. There is no team in the league that does not have multiple players who would've made the same exact play in that situation.
What I found personally embarrassing was the 2 minutes of booing that followed the play, as a kid is laying on the floor with what is an obvious serious injury. So, lets not start throwing the "class" argument out right now. |

Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ Dayton (Saturday 1/12/13)
Its funny that a few years ago Dante Jackson had a very similar looking foul that was called flagrant. X wasn't even playing Dayton but all the Dayton fans were sure it was a dirty play. Now they don't want this to be viewed as dirty.
I didn't think that the Dante Jackson foul was dirty and in my opinion I don't think this was really a dirty play. I think it was just unlucky that he went headfirst into the basket. Like someone else said, if he doesn't hit the basket then no one would even mention this as a dirty play. It is just the result of the play that makes it seem dirty. It was definitely a hard foul but sometimes you gotta go hard to prevent the basket, just a tough break for Rotnei. |

Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ Dayton (Saturday 1/12/13)
Butler fans need to move on. It was a most unfortunate foul. No doubt. But, Butler fans need to understand Derenbecker isn't known for his defensive ability. Relative to other UD defenders, he's probably the most uncoordinated. So it was a hard foul, but it looks like he got Clarke with the body, which altered the angle of his arm, making it look like he was going for the head. I'm seeing that through Flyer eyes, though. Either way, no one who watched the game can really say there was malicious intent.
Everyone hopes Clarke is alright. But Butler got a favorable call which led to them taking full control of the game. Quit griping and move on. |
