Re: Bobinski to Georgia Tech?

Best guess is he is going to double his salary going to Ga Tech. Both his kids are grown and out of college, so why not "go for it'.

The former. There is no uncertainty with respect to the C7 development, as Xavier was into it months ago.

Xavier and Mike Bobinski part ways on excellent terms. They both benefited greatly from a mutually beneficial relationship. Bobinski managed a program that has a reputation for doing things the right way, including emphasizing the student-athlete. BTW, I'm not attacking you, but some of the disparaging (sour grapes) comments taking place on your board after last night's game, regarding Semaj and Xavier couldn't be further from the truth.

ESPN write-up on Bobinski and the move:

Georgia Tech has hired Xavier University's Mike Bobinski as its new athletic director, the school announced on Wednesday.

Bobinski replaces Dan Radakovich, who resigned in November to take the same position at Clemson. Bobinski, who is also the current chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee, will officially begin at Georgia Tech on April 1.

"We are very pleased to welcome Mike Bobinski to Georgia Tech as our new director of athletics," Georgia Tech president G.P. "Bud" Peterson said in a prepared statement. "Mike's proven record of success and his diverse background in sports, finance and development, as well as his unwavering commitment to student-athletes, make him the ideal person to lead our athletic program."

Bobinski was in his 12th year as athletic director at Xavier, where he also served as associate vice president. A seven-member committee at Georgia Tech led the three-month, nationwide search. Bobinski is just the eighth athletic director in Georgia Tech history.

According to the NCAA's most recent Division I graduation success rates, Xavier ranks 11th in the nation at 97 percent. In June 2012, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics named Bobinski the Under Armour Division I Northeast Athletic Director of the Year. During his tenure, nine Xavier teams earned 40 team or individual spots in NCAA championship competition. That includes men's basketball, which has reached at least the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 in four of the past five years.

Prior to joining Xavier, Bobinski served as Akron's athletic director from 1994 to 1998. From 1989 to 1994, he was the associate director of athletics at the U.S. Naval Academy. Prior to that, Bobinski served as the associate and assistant business manager at the University of Notre Dame from 1984 to 1989.

A native of Yaphank, N.Y., Bobinski received his bachelor of business administration from Notre Dame in 1979, graduating magna cum laude, while playing four years for the Fighting Irish baseball team.

As a licensed certified public accountant, he first went into accounting with Deloitte, Haskins and Sell and Arthur Young & Company from 1979 to '82. He also worked for the Walt Disney Co. in Orlando, Fla., from 1982 to 1984 before moving into college athletics at Notre Dame.

Re: Bobinski to Georgia Tech?

People should notice the release said NOTHING about the AD's ability to manage football (maybe because, just off the top of my head, that's the job of the head football coach who gets paid multiples of what the AD gets paid).

Your quote marks should probably be around the word "relative" as GT might be in the Big10 by the summer.

The school, with it's emphasis on education, is really a great fit for Bobinski. I hope he doesn't take Sister Rose with him.

And to amplify your point and the point of the question you've been asking, his support staff will be bigger, as a result of having football and the other sports that come with it via the Title IX requirements.

He'll be a busy guy, but he won't be a one man band, keeping 15 spinning plates up in the air on poles, as he "learns" about "managing football." He "managed football" at Akron. It doesn't matter if you "manage football" at a Division III school or Ohio State, so long as you are an effective administrator who knows how to hire a quality staff, with everyone rowing in the same direction.

Basic issues of compliance, fund raising, student-athlete (educational) requirements come with football as they come with basketball, baseball or the golf team. As '87 noted, the coach will manage the football program directly. The coach will operate under the rules of the school's athletic department.

Generally speaking, Mike will not be out on the road, looking for linebackers; he'll be managing a larger athletic department through a large staff.

Agreed. That's another one he needs to check off on his resume before landing a top-notch FBS job.

Ugh.. Dash.. the one the little orange arrow takes you to. Here, I've quoted myself from November below. It's my subtle way of indicating my feelings for the BannedWagon.

We don't all bitch and moan about referees, and punks like Semaj. Maybe next time the Bonnies won't allow 400 offensive rebounds.

The relevant list likely doesn't exceed 2 or 3.
If the address isn't in Bloomington, Indiana; Durham, North Carolina; or Lexington, Kentucky, forget it.

Maybe that too. I had heard Indiana as a destination he'd consider, and Duke is Duke. My second team is Kentucky (lived there awhile), and they seem to think they can get anything they want.

Thanks BI85. De-icing or no de-icing machine, I'll always pull for the Bonnies. Besides, I've been through Olean and the countryside up there. It's beautiful.
