I'm obviously a little biased, but the fact that Fordham is 1-2 and played their two losses close makes me think that people won't be so quick to say you are expected to crush us. I see Fordham losing by 8 in this one, give or take 2.

I think even if Fordham wins there might be some people that say great win for Fordham on the road, but Dayton is now 0-4 and perhaps not very good. Not saying I expect that to happen though given that their current 0-3 is *very* deceptive.

I agree, Ace. Fordham has the one attribute that gives Dayton the most trouble: size. Not only do they have size, but they have talented size as Gaston has killed us in the past. A lesser Fordham team took what most would say is a better UD team to overtime just last season.

In no way to I expect this to be a walk in the park for Dayton. They will have to play tough to win.

Well Ace & Cobra you may be right, but the odds in Las Vegas go from Dayton giving 10 points as the low and 17 as the high.

Indeed they do. Don't get me wrong, I would by no means be shocked if Fordham got blown out b/c we have been terrible on the road aside from the Charlotte game. All I am reallly saying is that if Fordham hangs tight, I do not think most people will knock Dayton as Fordham has been able to hang with two other good A10 programs, one of them on the road.

I did not anticipate Gaston being out, the starters playing like a bunch panzies and Pecora benching them for the entire 2nd half.

That is 36 points right there.

57.4% from the field, 71.4% from three (!?), 50% from the free throw line. I don't know what they're putting in the water at Columbus Northland, but it doesn't help anyone shoot free throws.

If Dayton can shoot 71% from three the rest of the year, they may not lose again.

The minute Fordham stepped on the plane without Gaston, this was going to be a blowout. For them to have any shot to keep it near 10, Gaston would have had to have a great game. An abnormally good shooting night made it a mollywhopping by the second TV timeout. If it weren't for a 7 minute sloppy stretch bookending halftime, UD could have scored 110. One of those nights.

You won't be facing such terrible D the rest of the season which was part of the reason for the 71% from 3.

Agreed on Gaston. He had a poor game a week ago so I thought he would come out with something to prove. This team played without him earlier in the season which I thought would help them if he was out again. Clearly that did not happen.

Re: Game Thread: Fordham @ Dayton (Wednesday 1/23/13)

Dayton was hitting treys two steps behind the line. Louisville would have struggled to win tonight the way UD was shooting. That said, UL would have never given up those same looks to begin with. Flyers shot out of their rear ends. But they got a lot of easy baskets inside. The soft inside of Fordham was more pronounced than the weak perimeter defense. Gaston is one of the best in the league and it wasnt a fair fight without him. UD fans recognize that. Gaston is a First Team type of player.

Im glad UD shot the ball with authority, but it would have been nice to use a few of those makes against Butler, VCU, or LaSalle and not the worst team in the league when their stud is absent.

Gaston probably means more to the Rams than any other single player on any other team. Its like GW without Chris Monroe.

Re: Game Thread: Fordham @ Dayton (Wednesday 1/23/13)

As many on the Fordham board have already stated, last night's game was a terrible embarrassment to the University and our proud athletic tradition. After 17 seasons in the A10 we are still not competitive, except for flashes of respectability.

Something must be done, and the coaches, administration and leadership must be made accountable. Teams that quit "en masse" are a symptom of something systemically wrong. I am sure some would rather not read a such a post from a fellow alum, and sure it will draw a foul or two, but the truth is serious questions about our viability in this conference are warranted.

BTW, were you banned or were you just on hiatus? No posts from you since 1-6 and then suddenly you appear last night after 9 PM. What a coincidence.

Gaston is a beast and would have made all the difference in the world.
Its got to be tough to be a Ram fan.
The administration cares very little about the Basketball program, or so it seems.

I think the lack of Gaston hurt the team's psyche more than anything. I won't use words that can't be used here, but our guys came out like a bunch of p's. I am not sure Gaston would have made that much of a difference, at least not based on what he did in Charlotte. 31 minutes, 3 points and 10 boards. He is not well, but also does not do well against physical competition at times.

As for our administration, I will never defend them, but I am not sure they care little. They pay our coach $750k a year, our budget is up there with the largest in the A10 last I checked. They just won't build a proper facility. If that translates to caring very little, then you are right.
