Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
If Redford is guarding Sanford, I expect Vee to post him repeatedly. Sanford has some really good post moves and sneaky old man finishes.

I know there was talk on here after the Fordham game how UD just shot lights out from the 3. Is that typical? Maybe X goes a little zone even? We shall all find out soon enough, though. Another 22 more hours to speculate who Brad will guard while he is in the game. I sense the palpable pressure building on the board. Who knows, that may even make its way down to Cintas?

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
Redford has always been a player Dayton has exploited with great success. Gregory would run a clear out for whoever Redford was guarding until Miller/Mack took him out. I suspect we'll see more of the same under Archie, whether it's Sanford or Dillard.
Defensively, I wonder if Pierre will be charged with staying in Redford's hip when Price isn't on the floor. Put Sanford on Martin. Dillard's defense leaves a lot to be desired, but he's typically risen to a challenge, so I expect him on Semaj a lot. If he lays off a few feet and goes under, Dillard's speed could get Semaj in front of him for much of the game. The biggest key for Dayton is cutting Semaj off in transition. It may lead to a weak side basket or two, but overall, if Semaj isn't scoring in transition, Xavier may not be able to put up enough points. Frankly, if Dayton shoots the ball well, I think they win regardless of what Xavier does. Even when the offense is having a good night, Xavier struggles mightily to get out of the 60s. Only happened twice since November, and one of those was entirely due to Redford making 7 threes on GW. Dayton has largely lived in the 70s regardless of opponent, even on some of their off nights offensively. If Dayton shoots poorly or throws it away all night, they'll lose. Home court and emotion mean a lot. I think the outcome is in doubt until the final few possessions.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
I think one of the improvements that X has made as a result of being so undermanned this season is playing stronger team defense. Everyone knows that Redford is a defensive liability, but this season, the option to just not play him isn't there. They know he needs help and he gets it. He doesn't have the strength or athleticism to stop Vee Sanford on his own, but there is no guarantee that he can be as easily exploited as in the past. Although I certainly hope the Flyers can find a way to isolate him.

Not worried. saying dayton is going to win at Cintas is like saying they believe in Santa. It doesn't exist.

X by <10. Redford scores 10+ and Dayton struggles to get to 60. All the sweater clad ud fans have to walk past Dartanian on their way out as he's pointing them back to their miserable lives up north.

The D'Artagnan statue in front of the Cintas points south with a worried look over his shoulder to the west.

I think its pretty important that Price plays tonight. He's the type of player that could care less about his points and would absolutely blanket Redford. Still up in the air if he will play.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
While everyone is talking about if this guy is hitting shots and if that guy can makes threes ,I think that many people forget whats really important here.
Dayton is ranked 15th in conference in blocks. Their interior defense has been an issue for the last two years. For Dayton to have any chance they have to find some defense in the interior. People score @ will on us down low. If you beat your man you will have a clear path to the basket. Benson gets in foul trouble nearly every game. This isn't by accident. He's a poor defender. Scott is rarely in the correct position. Robinson's defense needs work. Oliver is the only solid defender and the best rebounder in ther league. I expect Mack to make Dillard work as hard as he can the entire game---try to run him in the ground as his backup make not be able to play. Vee---we need you tonite... |

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
When Landon Amos is in the game he will guard Dillard and will more than likely shut him down like he has every other star he has guarded this year. Now he can't hit the broad side of a barn, but he can defend like no ones business.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
The line started at Xavier giving 2 but is now up to 2.5. I don't think they win by more than one point if they win at all.

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
We just beat a better Lasalle team at home by 7 and it wasn't even that close yet we can't beat a mediocre ud team by more then 1? Yeah I'll take that bet
