Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
I know you are trying to make fun, but in all seriousness, this is what I am most jealous of about Xavier and this is why we haven't beaten Xavier in Cincinnati for a long time. Xavier thinks they are going to win at the end of the game, whether they are a senior or a freshman. UD's players and fans do not.

Even that's wrong. Dayton thinks they'll win that game, Xavier KNOWS they'll win that game.
But there's still more basketball to be played, including the rematches in Dayton and Brooklyn. We'll see you then. |

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
Personal observations from courtside -
Derenbecker (sp?) can shoot; X's first half lapse (combined with Derenbecker) took what would have been a blow out to a competitive game; Archie Miller whines like a little girl; Great UD fan that sat next to me - i feel for his voice today though; XU dominated on the glass at both ends - good thing I didn't rely on this site for my scouting report; Dillard got outplayed by a freshman (granted, he'll be FOY); Josh Benson must have been called for 3or4 of his 12 travels - you'd think he'd learn by now; For my $$, TTaylor was the player of the game - he owned the lanes; Benson and Robinson flat out went head-hunting on Dee Davis a couple possessions; Play of the game was the t/o to set up the Robinson alley-oop! 32 years will soon be 33. 'Nuff said. |

By the way, I expect an outlash from UD fans about their players unsportsmanlike behavior (from DDN):

Dayton lost that game by losing those 3 rebound opportunites in a row at the foul line. I can see a bad bounce or a long board going to X, but three in a row?
Dayton lost that game as much as X won it.

Classless - Yes It was a feeble attempt at gamesmanship and imtimidation which only came off as just poor sportsmanship - NICE JOB UD... Nice job!

Uh Yes - that gave X the cushion they needed to not have to do anything stupid on defense and forced UD back out to the arc.
That fould shooting sequence cost UD the game.

Benson then makes comments on twitter after the game about people/fans hating on him. He needs to get over that. He isn't the first person to be criticized by random strangers. Get over it. If he showed that kind of fire when a shot was in the air last night, we might have won. Vee played great. Robinson didn't play great, but he played hard. Derenbecker shot great and played fearless (probably should have gotten more minutes). Price was noticeably hurt, but he did well for himself while he was out there (though Christon got him good one time as he recovered after helping). Oliver did his part. I am proud of all those guys. But our seniors were too busy worrying about looking tough to actually play tough. |

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
Dayton would have undoubtedly came down and missed a shot even if they got the rebound off Taylor's first missed ft. That's what Dayton does, they lose in Cincy. X won because they wanted it more

Re: Game Thread: Dayton @ Xavier (Wednesday 1/30/13)
I don't normally agree with the two people I'm going to mention below, but they were spot on.
tman called the inside game deficiency of UD. Never thought I'd see a senoir who's last chance it was to beat his rival there, go out with 3 points & a rebound. If he put up the same kind of fight Linday Lohan does against a drug charge, we'd have won. I also blame Archie for not at least sending in Scott or Gavro to at least foul and wear down some of them. Knobby hit it on the head. While there were more things that led to the game being blown, that was simply a microcosm. When you stick a 60% FT shooter on the line and he misses, you box out and get the ball. Our guys did neither. Frustrating game from our end. I mean christ, even Steve Wolf sounded somewhat unbiased and there were no Johnny Wolf mentions in the broadcast...had to count for something.
