Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ George Washington (Saturday 2/9/13)
Looking forward to this one. Have never seen Butler play in person, so I'm very curious to see them... but also to see how GW's continued improvement translates to a game against a top 15 club. I expect GW learned something from LaSalle about the intensity needed for this kind of a game out of the starting gate.

Butler has the whiniest fans including boy wonder Brad Stevens and the biggest flopper in Clarke. Team is really good, but you guys are not that good.

Whale of a game. Game was won in the first half when GW could not hit a shot and Butler dominated on the boards. Both teams left so many points on the foul line. Really fun atmosphere at the Smith Center, but GW is still waiting for its signature win. Congrats to the Bulldogs.

Great to see the attendance at the Smith Center today. I imagine it was a great atmosphere. I haven't been to a game this year but I've always enjoyed your band and your dance team even when seemingly few others were there to see them. It's also good to see GW get a couple of more inches in the Post. At the beginning of the year, it was tooth and nail with American to see who would get the 2nd paragraph. Tough loss, but it all seems good.

Re: Game Thread: #14 Butler @ George Washington (Saturday 2/9/13)
Congrats to butler. They were lucky to escape with a win. GW had a really good defensive gameplan, cutting off the passing lanes and using Garino to harass Clarke into a bad game (like most of the guys Garino guards, Clarke was 5-16 but I'm not sure If any of his buckets came when Garino was guarding him).
GW simply couldn't make a shot. Butlers D was great but GW got open shots and just couldn't make anything. Too bad. The Colonials are close. I do like Butler's team a lot. But they really need another ball handler because they struggled badly against the press. Lastly this was another travesty of A10 officiating. Two things I've never seen before (besides a large number of blown judgment calls): 1) with GW trying to come back, Roosevelt jones goes to the line for 1 and 1. Refs accidentally tell players it's two. He misses badly but then the refs realize it was one and one so, by rule, they correct the mistake with the possession arrow. Basically the refs gifted Butler a key possession. 2) with 9.6 seconds left, there's a jump ball that goes to Butler. The ref specifically warns jones that he can't run the baseline even though he's taking it out under his basket. Jones forgets and takes about three steps but the same ref that warned him not to, doesn't call it and let's jones have a time out. Fortunately jones makes a terrible play and does it again. This time the ref calls it but then the refs have to consult to figure out the rules of basketball (even though the ref had warned jones). Also, ref Joe DeMayo got hurt running in the first half and left the game. Not blaming loss on refs, but man that was embarrassing.

I hope he's not hurt bad...but this is a good thing for league officiating.
