Great win as X had won 52 of their last 53 at home and only lost 1 A-10 home game in the last 6 seasons before today. This league is a bear. Unbelievable quality all the way through. SLU looks like the clear favorite but there are good teams all the way around. We're in good shape for a top 4 bye which is what I thought we would be capable of this year so I'm glad my faith in VCU has been rewarded. Tons of respect for X. What a program. They lost all that and they still have a pretty good team. When we were down 17 I thought we were done for sure. Great to see us get to double-digit conference wins in our first A-10 season.

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
Losing Dee Davis for the final 13 minutes of the game REALLY hurt X. Xavier needed all the ball handling they could get and Dee was having a really good game up until that point.
Congrats VCU on the comeback though.

So did Chris Mack and 10,050 other people at Cintas Center.

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
yep muddy xavier blew it today, however at least we haven't been the failure that is the dayton flyers. xavier in a rebuilding season after losing 5 starters and two recruits. my GOD we play two walk ons and still a better record than the flyers. win a road game against someone LMFAO.

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
Losing Dee exposed Xaviers short bench. We needed ball handlers out there against that press, and losing our starting PG definitely hurt. Congrats to VCU, they played an excellent second half overcoming what would most call a totally disasterous first half.
Xaviers season is what it is. We took one of the best teams in the league and made a great game of it. I can't fault the players for the effort, the hustle was there, just honestly think the talent level on VCU outdid Xavier today. In a rebuilding year that happens. But man, I don't care who you are, or who you root for, this conference tournament is going to be insane. AND AWESOME.

I would have preferred a game with no injuries. Xavier certainly could not afford to lose its starting point guard, who was in the process of having a very good game, with that much time left, especially against a good team that specializes in havoc. I do have to give Chris Mack all the credit in the world for coaching these guys up the way that he has. It has been a crazy year, and there are no signs of it letting up in this conference from here. |

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
The biggest effect with the loss of Dee was on the defensive end. While Redford had a good offensive game the VCU guards attacked the basket at will with him in there. This Xavier season has made me realize what it's like to be a UD fan. While I love our teams grit and hustle we're just missing a couple players.
Congrats to VCU on the win they sure play hard.

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
With one son-in-law an X grad, and one a VCU grad, and both of them in the Cintas today with my daughters, I couldn't lose.
But damn I hated to have that one slip away. We need a deeper bench to withstand the havoc. Did great in the first half, passed out of it for lay ups. Think it just wore us down (and losing Dee) at the end. Semaj had a bunch of TO's in the last 10 minutes. VCU is obviously for real, but a lot of credit to Chris Mack for bringing us so far this year with so little.

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
Dwayne didn't need that jersey.
Now Dwight, he may have needed it.

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
3rd game this year that Xavier had a double-digit lead in the 2nd half at home and couldn't close. To their credit, VCU just came out and took the game. It wasn't given to them.
At least they could cash in when they had the opportunity. Temple? La Salle? Dayton? They swung and missed. Who knows how Xavier responds against UMass and SLU; they've still got a chance for a bye. This was a big opportunity missed for X. |

Re: VCU vs. Xavier
Regardless of X's multiple blown games. This is a rebuilding year, losing all 5 starters, 2 recruits and having your freshman lead the team. And we are still finishing in the top half of the A-10.
