Yup, UMass football is far too weak right now. The only way UMass leaves for the America 12 (A12 huh?) would be if Navy decides not to join or one of the current members leaves.

Most of what I've been hearing is that we're fine with what we've got. No on really wants to go all MAC, and unless the A12 comes with an invite we've got no other decent options.

Honestly, the faculty senate would rather see us drop football than make any sort of move that would cause us to spend more money (increased travel costs being All-MAC). They've actually proposed dropping football on more than one occasion since last year (not that they have any power or even understand what the hell they're doing)

Another kudo to Brown Indian on the map! Yes, you can't help but notice the circle. Of course, it goes against the modern trend of expanding the footprint and TV market but dang, a geographically compact competitive conference where every school is a day's drive from every other school would be nice! Would it be a dinosaur, though? Move the conference HQ to Allentown. Dack smab in in the middle of things! They got a minor league baseball stadium there (Lehigh Valley IronPigs--Phillies AAA) and a minor league hockey/basketball arena (for the Flyer's minor league team the Phanthoms) is on its way.

Whoever leaves the A10 will be leaving a lot of NCAA money behind. I doubt anyone leaves the A10, at least in the next six years, unless it's for the Big East or for football.

I wish that all of this realignment would just end. I'm curious to see who the new A10 members will be. It's interesting to see Siena's message board talk about the move. I know Bonnie fans are against it (and as a Dukes fan, I admire their fanbase) but I would definitely put them as my second/third choice (Davidson is probably two behind GMU). I also love the fact that they really want to be in our league.

America 12? I thought Conference USA was a terrible name, but this takes it to the next level. I think they should just find a corporate sponsor for naming rights. The Poulan-Weedeater Conference has a nice ring to it, but I also like the Beef O'Brady's League.

sheq, hadn't thought about that. That leaves me more steadfast in my desire for a 10 team conference for now. I don't think we're (future A-10ers) in danger of a higher conference scooping any of the schools we mentioned, or they'd be headed to C7+ right away as well. So the A-10 really is in the driver seat going forward - why not split the pot amongst the 10 die-hards that stay, then in 4-6 years invite new members if desired?

I don't believe it's either/or, '85. There is nothing stopping existing members allocating all residual tournament shares and exit fees to themselves while still adding new members if they so wish.

OK res, makes sense. Although offering a cut probably entices them to join. But if we're truly a better league for the school in question, that should be enticement enough.

I honestly doubt Davidson would be all that interested in joining. They own the SoCon. Why step into a league where they'd have to compete when they can continue to dominate the SoCon and make the NCAA tournament 75% of the time?

A few of those comments to that tweet were of the laugh out loud type. It was mostly the same two guys going back and forth though.
