Re: The Future A10 Thread
GMU only makes sense if richmond leaves instead of dayton. It would introduce a natural rival to VCU which would be essential to the survival of the new league. If Dayton gets the invite over Richmond the new A10 will be held up on the shoulders of the richmond city rivalry. It is really the only thing the new A10 would have going for it. VCU is the new top dog in the A10 and having a competitive rivalry with them could save this conference.

Re: The Future A10 Thread
A10BBALL; good post in response to Indian. I will admit that as a LaSalle grad I have a bias but I see some of the comments about eliminating teams to be silly, yes even Fordham, and some of the suggestions as to who to add to be even more so.
I took a quick look at RPI from 07-09 to current year for just LaSalle and St. Joe, with a brief look at St. Louis. LaSalle 163, 112, 171, 181, 83, 35 The year they were 171 they had three starters out at one time from mid to end of the season. St. Joe 44, 105, 176, 205, 66, 84 I fail to see a significant difference here other then great improvement on the part of LaSalle. However I seen no one screaming to eliminate the Hawks. Interesting to note that St. Louis was 138 in 07-08 and 174 in 10-11. It is too bad that the conference will be severely diminished after having recvently risen, and especially this year. A few years of success would have led to better TV contracts and made leaving less appealing. In the meantime "Get a grip", it's basketball not life and death. |

Re: The Future A10 Thread
I don't understand how you can credibly talk about banishing La Salle or Bonas at this point in time. Bona went to the tournament last year, a small but passionate fanbase and, while not elite, they have been decent this year after losing an NBA player. La Salle is looking like a likely NCAA team this year, NIT last year, and returns almost everyone. Alright, the arena is terrible, but it's not like you're credibly offering teams that could replace them. Northeastern? They are melting down in the CAA and don't draw. No one is getting banished.

10-11 for SLU was the year that Kwamain and Willie got kicked off the team. That's where the guys playing now got a lot of experience.

Right, but the year before that, La Salle lost three senior starters for the year to injuries. You can't disregard a year for extreme circumstances in one program without affording the same to another. Last edited by Rashti19; 03-02-2013 at 07:38 PM. |

Re: The Future A10 Thread
I didn't. I just put 174 in context. I'm not disregarding it, because it happened.

Re: The Future A10 Thread
Fordham's new'ish AD, David Roach, said today on WFUV radio that he believes the A10 will look to stick to 12 teams. That would mean that without anything official on anyone beyond Xavier and Butler, we should not expect any announcements from the A10.
While I think 12 is a very good number for a conference, I think it puts us at risk of eventually having to add an unattractive dare I say, Fordham-like program, if UMass ends up bolting. If the 12 we had left were deemed stable, I would see sticking at 12 as the right move, but due to instability, I feel otherrwise. |

Re: The Future A10 Thread
UMass bolting from the A10 is probably not very likely. UMass is not going to go to MAC all sports and the football BE just isn't a good geographic fit for the olympic sports. Unless an invitation from a real conference, like the ACC, were to come to UMass I doubt they will leave the A10. Fact is that the chances of UMass getting an ACC invite are about as good as Fordham getting to the Dance. Frankly, I'm surprised that Temple isn't trying to get back into the MAC for football so that it can stay in the A10.

Re: The Future A10 Thread
Well if that is the case, then I think 12 is a fine number. I would not add for the sake of adding.
If I were McGlade I would be on the phone with the C7, whoever the right person might be, and asking them what their plans were. No guarantee you get an honest answer, but you might and then you know what your next move should be. Also, what are the chances that once X and Butt are gone that the A10 increases their exit fee? |
