Re: A-10 Hot Seat Index: The Burnin' Bernies

Jim Crews:

Should be: 5 BB for the absolute train wreck this year has been.

Reality: He "earned" the right to have a bad season with the last couple years, so he survives this year and probably next.

Crews dropped 2 games to Paul Hewitt and 1 to Pecora. If those two go, shouldn't the guy who got blown out 3x by them go too?

Yes, IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN NO MATTER HOW MUCH I WOULD LIKE IT TO.

Phil could be gone in a few weeks. No, that's not hyperbole. It remains a possibility.

I guess the next question is, who else wouldn't mind seeing their coach canned?

I've counted Lasalle, St. Joe, SLU, Mason, and Fordham fans in this thread.

EpicFailGuy, please add Duquesne. Ferry is not going to be canned this year, but there is little to no faith that his style of coaching; i.e. no defense; will get them anywhere above the mediocre level.

Re: A-10 Hot Seat Index: The Burnin' Bernies

My assumption is that other schools' fans would not agree with SJU and LAS fans wanting to fire Phil and G, respectively, much like they wouldn't agree with Crews' canning. .

Of course they wouldn't...it makes the mentioned schools easier to beat.

This is also called the Brian Gregory Corrollary.

It's almost incomprehensible that not one of the MooneyMustGo group posted in this thread. Then again you said...

Tied with the crosstown Rams for 4th is a "little better" year than coming in 7th last year.

Also, we have the current longest winning streak in the A10 at 6 games.
3 more to go!

Phil's not going to leave of his own free will and I don't see the administration pulling the trigger either.

What does he have left on his contract, 1 more year? If that's the case it could prove interesting. He'll be pushing for a 2 year contract in the off-season I bet. I doubt the administration says no.

Hence, he staved off multiple Bernies.

mooney's arse has temporarily cooled having beaten VCU twice and virtually guaranteed Richmond of at least the NIT. This team should have been in the NCAA tournament though and now will need a big push

If Mooney makes the NCAAs this year he will be 3 NCAAs in 6 years. That is pretty good. I think Richmond will be good again next year and he could get up to 4 NCAAs in 7 years. of course this is highly speculative, but Mooney is not nearly as bad as many Richmond fans make him out to be. Despite major uncontrollable setbacks every year since his sweet 16 he has averaged over 21 wins a season for the past 7 seasons.

Re: A-10 Hot Seat Index: The Burnin' Bernies

Setbacks every year? That's a bit overstated and generous. The Lindsay injury was devastating but there have been plenty of recruiting misses and players slow to develop or not to develop. Richmond fans have a right to be underwhelmed with the record since the Sweet 16. We missed an opportunity to really elevate the program despite ample financial investment. I think fans of other programs underestimate what we have to offer and that higher expectations are somehow unreasonable. Could not disagree more.
