Re: Atlantic 10 Membership Timeline

Thanks, Hawkamaniac.
Question for Duquesne fans: Why did the Dukes leave the A-10 in 1992...and come back?

Re: Atlantic 10 Membership Timeline

Best adds - Xavier, Dayton

Worst Adds - Va Tech (I barely remember them being in the league), Charlotte (useless), LaSalle (totally unnecessary addition to the league at the time).

Zing!

Is it just me, or is this years' L/SJ escalation like watching 2 nerds fight in middle school?

Speaking of unnecessary.

Its the absolute truth. Really no reason to debate it. Why did the league need a 3rd Philly team in the A10. It made no sense whatsoever. And it played out exactly as you would expect as the 3rd team added nothing to the league for 17 years after it was added. (17 years?) They would have been better off in a lower league. I am sure they would have been invited over the last couple of years with Temple leaving the conference.

Re: Atlantic 10 Membership Timeline

So its been 23 years since we had 10 teams in the conference? I did not realize it had been that long.

Re: Atlantic 10 Membership Timeline

With the membership as it is in 2014, it hard to believe that the majority of the league in its early years were large public state schools.

UMass
Rutgers
Pitt
Penn State
West Virginia
URI
Temple

Up until 1991, the league was at either 5 to 3 or 6 to 4 public to private ratios.

I would bet that SLU would be on that list if the Billikens left last year. Of course, the fact that the MVC stuff has mostly died down means the A-10 wins.

Re: Atlantic 10 Membership Timeline

Forgive me for getting on my Bruno soapbox.

How the hell did she decide to admit Fordham and allow them to keep their football team in the Patriot League.

The A10 could still have football to the total dis-dain of Xavier fans, who were vocal in letting football fade away, with Richmond voting to side with the CAA. With Fordham, Richmond could never have been turn coats to the A10.

Additional rantings in this old thread.

Nice job Hawkamaniac.
