Can't tell you how much he meant growing up in Philly attending the Catholic League and watching Dr Jack's teams play back in the late 50's/early 60's. He is Mr Big Five, Mr Hawk, and all the kids wanted to play for him and SJC.
RIP, there will never be another Dr Jack, we loved you.

re: 2016-2017 Saint Joseph's University Hawks

I've never met or talked to Dr. Jack, and I'm far, far too young to have seen him coach, but the statistics and stories solidify the fact that he is one of the greatest coaches the game has ever seen. One of the most impressive things, to me, about him is that he still called games on the radio until last season at the age of 88. That's incredible. He fought the good fight against cancer for a long, long time, and that may be the most impressive thing about him--a true testament to his character.

One of the NBA's all-timers, for sure, but he is the Saint Joseph's all-timer, without question.

May you rest peacefully, Dr. Jack.

When I was very young, I remember how unhappy everyone was when Jack jumped from the SJU to the pros.

So what happens after a vote of no confidence?

Tough to say. The full faculty senate has had votes of no confidence in two senior administrators and the chair of the BoT.

Essentially the next step would be the faculty trying to force their removal from their positions.

SJU is a tire fire. SO, so much old blood and circling of the wagons and old boys club, and it's quickly sinking the university in increasingly-competitive times in higher ed.

If you're THAT interested I can give more information about SJU-specific things goings on in the past few months/years that have led to this, but in general a vote of no confidence is the final step before attempting to remove an administrator from their post. SJU may well have a new president by the end of the summer.

Good look for SJU and most definitely RR. He's an awesome person. And hey, he can jump real high.

This is an exceptional long-form essay in Slate on Delonte West. Many on this board have been around A10 hoops for a long time, and I don't think it's unfair to say that West was (and is) a truly fascinating player and person. There are multiple pieces of his artwork hanging around the basketball offices inside Hagan Arena, and players on the team today talk about his legendary work ethic.

I really recommend the read if you've the time or interest in West, professional sports culture, and/or mental illness.

For the very small few who aren't on the SJU board and don't receive alumni emails, do note that the SJU mass for Dr. Jack will take place on August 13th. It is open to all, but the family does request an RSVP. It will be held in Hagan Arena.

At SLU, the answer was absolutely nothing. It took a year from the last one to get rid of Father Biondi.

I really don't know what will happen here. I was going to ask what happened at SLU.

The incoming chair of the BoT had an incredibly refreshing letter he just sent out, so I'm hopeful moving forward for some improvement, but I still worry we don't have the leadership in place to improve our position in the market.

SLU seems to be trending upward, so giving the boot isn't always a bad thing, as some assume it means.

I have no idea why I was looking up SJU's series record squad-by-squad, but I found a few interesting tidbits.

Since 1979, SJU and UMass have played 64 times, SJU winning 30, UMass winning 34. The average aggregate score of those contests?

UMass 71
SJU 70.7

Of A-10 foes, only VCU is closer with a .02 margin of victory--but the small sample size there (6 games) makes it considerably less interesting.

It's either Jerry Palm or Ken Pomeroy if you are referring to the person that hosts a college hoops team ranking site (as both do).
