I used to really hate Martelli (back when he and Bona fans exchanged some barbs in the early 2000s), but he's grown on me. In the era of slick, dickheaded head coaches in $5,000 suits, Martelli reminds me of a genuine, beer-drinking basketball coach. He isn't perfect, but he's a better option than many of the soul-selling slicksters who waddle the sidelines today.

I'll still call out and give Phil the guff he deserves--and all the cheap shots he's taken at Hawk fans are something I will NEVER get over--I'll agree on that front. I'll take the honest douche you can butt heads with than the slick Willy that most other guys are.

I don't care, Phil. Just keep winning.

Yep. Those are my same thoughts on Schmidt. He has said some things that have really pissed me off, but I love his attitude. The guy is the very opposite of phony. Salt of the earth.

I get the impression that no A10 coach is a real smoke blower.

Miller is honest and critical, Smart does it in his own way, Crews is just old and mean, Schmidt is definitely a hip shooter, and the list goes on.

Phil is the dean, though, after all, even with Bob McKillop becoming Dean Defacto. I think Phil has been humbled, AGAIN, and I think his ego has plateaued. His recruiting pitch is no BS and it gets through to certain kids and their families. Hopefully that translates well to on the court.

Pecora has a bit of that slickster vibe, but I know nothing about him as a coach or person.

For your wedding plans, consider an appearance from the Hawk. Rates negotiable.

re: 2016-2017 Saint Joseph's University Hawks

SJU has offered skilled bigs in Cody Schwartz out of Wisconsin and Italy-native Pierfranchesco Oliva out of NJ's Bergen Catholic. Schwartz has offers from Creighton, Marquette, Northern Iowa, and Nebraska, among others. Oliva has offers from Fairfield, W&M, and Rider.

Both seem like they can shoot, handle decently, and stretch the floor--which, with all the slashing wings SJU's been adding, would be a really, really big to an offense.

A Schwartz mixtape:

Per his twitter, PG Lamarr Kimble has committed to SJU. Really, really excited to have him on Hawk Hill.

Phil doin' work.

Oh, but he doesn't have 4*. Must suck.

Good to see the bridges to local talent being rebuilt after they were burned to a crisp last decade. Here's hoping their top 2015 target, Chris Clover follows suit!

Interesting comments about him being a pure point guard and Newkirk, apparently being a combo guard.

re: 2016-2017 Saint Joseph's University Hawks

Although I expect 2014-15 to be a rough rebuilding season, the future is beginning to look very good, as the below article states. We're just a few months past philmustgo.com, but perhaps an extension of a couple of years (not four) for Martelli is warranted.

Brown (transfer), Demery & Newkirk coming in this year, Kimble & Clover coming in next year. It's good to see that the days of preciously thin, depth-deprived Hawk backcourts will soon be a memory.

Conference schedule released. A10 Network games should be SNY games which end up being locally broadcast (and available for online streaming via CampusInsiders or LiveStream). Otherwise, yawn.
