2016-2017 Saint Joseph's University Hawks

Every other school has one of these, so why not us? Save, of course, for the fact there's about five regular Hawk posters on here. I'll do my best to keep it updated with links to videos, articles, etc.

This thread starts a new as we say goodbye to the old. Tonight, at 9pm, on ESPN, be sure to tune in to see the Collegiate Dunk and 3-Point Contests. Though that three point competition should include our own Langston Galloway, Hawk fans can tune in to see fellow senior Ronald Roberts in the dunk contest.

EDIT: I might as well add more Ron dunk videos as I see them. I know there's plenty out there outside of the few highlighted in the second video.

I've posted all that I can quickly find. If anyone finds any more, please do share. We'd all love a trip down memory lane.

I'm happy for Roberts and SJU but both Putney and Esho are far better dunkers than he is.

Roberts should bring Matt Kavanaugh to use as a prop. Guaranteed to win. He always dunks on Kav.

Pat Carroll to enter the Big 5 HoF. I'd quote the whole thing but it's too long.

At the annual banquet this past Friday, the three leading seniors (Kanecevic, Roberts & Galloway) were named co-MVP's and Delonte West--whose career already seems to be in its twilight--was inducted into the Hawk Hoops Hall of Fame. Also, there was a lot of chatter that longtime assistant Mark Bass may be in line to get a head coaching gig.

Halil Kanacevic begins his pro career in Italy after signing a contract in Italy. Well done and much deserved, HK.

Quote:
Saint Joseph's forward Halil Kanacevic has signed a professional contract with Virtus Roma of Italy. The team is in the Basketball League Series A, which is the National Professional First Division and the highest level of club competition in that country.

Kanacevic had a standout season for the Atlantic 10 Champion Hawks, averaging 10.9 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game. He also topped the Hawks in assists (4.4) and blocks (1.5), while earning Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team honors and Philadelphia All-Big 5 First team recognition.

Kanacevic was the Most Valuable Player of the Atlantic 10 Championship as he averaged 15.3 points and 14.3 rebounds in SJU's three tournament wins.

The senior is the only player to wear the Saint Joseph's uniform and record in excess of 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 assists and 200 blocks. Those numbers include his freshman season at Hofstra University.

Given there are a few weeks left in the semester, will he graduate in May as scheduled?

From what I understand he completed all his coursework in December and will walk in a few weeks.

Over the Hawk board, some people are getting excited over potential transfers. However, at present, we have no scholarships available. If there are any players leaving, it's a big secret for the paying members of the forum. Has anybody heard of anything?

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Jack Ramsay. I remember him as a great coach when I watched the NBA as a kid (he coached Portland to their only title) and then as a great announcer. He is a legend of the game and he will be missed. I know that he is a SJU graduate so I wanted to send my condolences.
RIP Dr. Jack

I love this old school photo. Nice pants!

Hawk Hoops has lost the "giant" of its history with the passing of Jack Ramsey, just as LaSalle lost the "giant" of its history with the passing of Tom Gola earlier this year.

R.I.P., Dr. Jack and congratulations on all that you accomplished in life. And, thank you.
