I think it's time to form a new power conference.

Nothing new, but a decent read:

Re: Reshuffling Conferences

What's weird is that WSU article never really mentions that "Wichita State has conducted a study on the cost of adding football and is strongly considering it"

This article suggests the AAC will add only one school, and that it will be a non-football school. They will not be adding multiple basketball schools.

It looks like Wichita State is going to go to the AAC. I really wish we could make a push for them, but I think having 14 members right now is pretty good. 15 would be weird, and I don't really see anyone else that would add value to the conference.

Re: Reshuffling Conferences

WSU would make sense for the AAC in the long haul, too, since the Shocker administration has been heavily considering 1-A football. I wonder if the MVC would look at replacing them with Valpo.

Makes a lot of sense. Strengthen the basketball side and balance out Football-only Navy.

And likely relegate us below AAC permanently now?

A10 is teetering on a balance. Rhoades needs to keep it rolling at VCU and god forbid Miller leaves Dayton. We have URI until Hurley surely bolts for P5 stardom, and Ford hoping to build a winner at SLU. Without unforeseen changes, GW, SJU, SBU, RICH, DAV will all stay where they are - solid, not great, hope for postseason. The wildcards are Fordham and UMass. DUQ, LAS, and GMU worry me a little.

I'd take an AAC/A10 showcase in a heartbeat but at the top, would we - on most years - have the guns for CINN, CONN, WICH, SMU? How would the middle stack up?

Rambling.

'55, unfortunately you are on the money. It's not unfortunate that you actually posted something factual, but what you posted is an unfortunate reality of college basketball in 2017.

Re: Reshuffling Conferences

We lost our place as the best non FBS Football BB league and their is no turning back time. The Big East is by far in the lead, then the P5. We were neck and neck with the top G5 conferences as specifically the American. We can still keep up except in down years after our coaches are raided and then bounce back. Remember when we were neck and neck with the Big East. The MVC, CUSA, and CAA all challenged us in their good years like we challenged the Big East in our good years. Those 3 conferences are now noticeably below us. It's just the natural ebb and flow.

When were we ever on the level of the Big East, in the early 80s? We're talking nearly 40 years ago, if so.

Re: Reshuffling Conferences

When St Joes, Temple, Xavier, Dayton, UMass etc (Back then it was basically just Fordam at the back of the line, closely followed by LaSalle and the Dukes.) were all good 20 years ago. Look back a few years on the NCAA Credit Payout. There were a few very good years there as well.

There was a period of time through the 90's into early 00's where it would have been a toss-up between the conferences.
