That sham of an organization, The Gazelle Group, put it together. Of course it's a joke. The Gazelle Group is a joke. It was supposed to be played in MSG but The Gazelle Group fucked that up. DK and UMass chose to stay in it even when it fell apart. Probably too hard to line up replacement games.

That is correct, they were strung along until it was too late to back fill.

These 4 games are an anvil hanging on the RPI/SOS.

Re: 2016-17 UMass Minutemen

Nice showing by the squad on Saturday in front of about 1200 people..... Bad weather excused the fan participation however..

The biggest thing I saw out of that game was he used all of his freshmen and for a good amount of minutes.

Gresham looks like he is starting to round into some comfort level. He is still making mistakes but that is OK, as long as he is learning.

The final 3-4 minutes he had all 5 freshmen in the game and they extended the lead!!!!

I have no idea why Berger plays. He starts, then comes out in about 4 minutes then doesn't play again unless he starts the second half for the same 4 minutes? Why bother?

We got to see some of the Jarreau/Gresham connection over the past two games. Looks like we can get some fun plays out there this year from those two.

It was great to see all the freshmen, not just out there, but playing well. Also gotta love getting some highlight reel stuff out there, even if no one is there to see it in person:

Re: 2016-17 UMass Minutemen

The spin move was better than the dunk IMO.

It will be interesting to see if his new found "trust" in his youngsters will stick or not. Gresham/Baldwin/Flowers should have played A LOT more minutes in the NCA&T Game.

Kennesaw was a (too) close game when he put them all in based on his history of subbing. I am not sure why he went with them Saturday and not Wednesday???

Whatever, I hope they keep playing more and more.

Maybe he realized what he did was stupid and course corrected for the next game.

There's no way to say this without malice but, if he did realize it, it was because somebody like Cal told him.

I was thinking the same thing...... DK's powers of self reflection have been historically very limited, there had to be a catalyst - or "Caltalyst" in this case !!!

Whatever the reason, thank chriest it was done..... like I said, let's see if this carries over to the Rider game. All I know is if I see Coleman in uniform doing warm-ups, I am not hopeful of similar minutes for those other boys .

Re: 2016-17 UMass Minutemen

I am still trying to figure out how good this team really is/can be.

On paper there seems to be a really high ceiling - as long as he used Baldwin and Gresham properly they have a great nucleus covering all 5 positions on the floor. I am just worried that the guard will get more and more control of everything and leave the big men out of the picture.

The HS coach of my town's team is kind of like this. He absolutely loves big men, but he has not f-ing clue how to utilize them. I am in a small town so younger players come up faster just due to less bodies in total. So the middle school teams get pillaged of anyone with height - so two thing happen, they don't learn how to be a big man, then they don;t get used properly by the HS team. It is a very sad circle of unreached potential year after year.....

He lets his guards do whatever they want as far a controlling the ball and shots. During the regular season they are reasonably successful, buyt come playoffs the lack of big development gets exposed and they get bounced out of the tourney early and easily. I can see this happening with DK and these very alpha-dog guards he has now.....

They're young and inconsistent, it happens. The guards on this team share the ball and pass it to the big men better and more consistently than any UMass team in at least the last 8 years.

I agree and that's what keeps me optimistic. Jarreau to Gresham is going to be a very regular thing. It seems to me that DK may be figuring out how to effectively use what should be, by February, the best front court in the conference.

Baldwin vision is limited by the mask, but high on all the young talent and the veterans.

Re: 2016-17 UMass Minutemen

RIDER GAME: Tale of two halves..... the second half was only a little better than the first half, then they locked in for the final 10.

If they could play all 40 minutes like they played the last 8 minutes - we could be a team nobody really wants to play in the conference tourney....

- Fouls were troubling (bad refs and bad decisions by bigs in the middle to make it worse) Holloway had 16 points in only 13 minutes because of fouls
- Gresham will be 1st team A-10 by his Junior year - he didn't score 1 point and they won the game because of him IMO
- Only 11 Turnovers
- I am not a Coleman guy - he is a ball killer - holdover from Umass of last year
- Clark is still a ball killer at times too, but he is getting much better and he is settling in as the goto guy
- Not a lot of production from the point last night, but still pulled it out.

Not thrilled with the schedule next week - GA St is not a pushover (and it is away) then a quick turnaround to start the league against the Bonnies who always give us trouble.

Are the UMass freshmen living up to expectations? I seem to remember they brought in some highly touted recruits.
