Re: 2016-2017 Dayton Flyers

"It’s a sign that we do things the right way and we play the right way and we’re having some success,” Miller said. “It doesn’t impact what we’re doing. I don’t allow it in the office. I don’t allow it in my head. As we do our thing here at Dayton, the one thing people have to recognize is how great this fan base is and how great the tradition is. Very few people have what we have at our fingertips, and we built it from day one with our guys.”

Miller credited the administration for giving him everything he needs and said the transition from Athletic Director Tim Wabler and President Dan Curran to new AD Neil Sullivan and new President Eric Spina has been seamless.

“When you have a great relationship with the administration and you combine that with the crazy, rabid fan base and a proud basketball community, those are a lot of things a lot of people don’t have and never will have,” Miller said. “I’m not about to to give that up just because some job calls because I don’t know and no one else knows what those relationships will be like in the future. To me, trust is everything, and we have great trust here.”

The reason I linked the tweet and this article is to point out that moving on isn't on every coaches mind. Again, I'm not saying Archie isn't going to leave after this year but he's cementing himself as the Mark Few or Gregg Marshall of Dayton at this point. He gets what he wants at UD and Dayton, along with the renovations, will probably throw another hefty pay raise his way also to try and keep him.

Some cool tidbits in this article but I really enjoyed number 6 about Scoochie and his respect for VCU.

6. Smith excels: Dayton point guard Scoochie Smith followed his 11-point overtime performance Friday at Davidson with another standout effort. He scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six assists, four rebounds and one turnover in 37 minutes.

The CBS Sports Network had a microphone on VCU coach Will Wade, who was heard asking his team, “Who can guard Scoochie?” If Smith looked as if he were having fun, he was. He finished his career 58-8 at UD Arena.

“Playing against VCU is always fun,” Smith said. “That’s a players’ basketball game. It’s not about Xs and Os. When I was standing with Doug Brooks at the end of the game, that’s what we talked about. I told him, ‘It was fun playing you guys.’ It’s fun playing against the best talent.”

Thank you for sharing. I get worked up as we all do but these games are about the players and competition. I love that the players respect each other while at the same time going after each other hard. Wish I could be as respectful. Ha!

Ya, I think we forget as fans how these guys are probably having more fun just playing then we fans do as we watch our teams lose games. We as fans tend to take it more personal and the players view it more as competition. You could tell last night there were some real chippy moments out there on the court but at the end of the day, most of these guys probably get along pretty well together and respect each other's game.

Yeah, and they were rewarded by skipping the 7-10 matchup and going right to the matchup with a Kenpom rated 2 seed.

LOL...now doubt. Honestly, I'd much rather had an opponent like Xavier, Maryland, Creighton, Seton Hall, Wisconsin, Arkansas, ect. I'd take my chances against any of those teams...instead we get WSU!!!!!

VCU probably feels the same way too...I would have picked VCU over Creighton over Xavier but I pretty knew the match up favored SMC over VCU. Just total crap.

Re: 2016-2017 Dayton Flyers

No matter how tonight ends....I'm actually really pumped about next years team and there's ONE main reason why:

http://www.daytondailynews.com/sport...qt9RgyfIveMNM/

“He’s really picked up the offense,” Ostrom said. “He has great instincts on defense. He can really move his feet. He has a knack for blocking shots. Guys will go up for layups and have their man beat, and Kostas will come out of the blue from the weak side to block the shot into the wall. All the coaches look at each other: ‘Where did he come from?’ He’s working really hard on his jump shot. He’s got to get his base strong, his legs stronger for the physicality of the game.”

Landers described Antetokounmpo as a different breed.

“He’s a 6-10, 6-11 guard,” Landers said. “It’s hard to find those. He’ll have a lot of fire with him next year, and you guys are going to see a great player.”

“He’s going to be great for our team,” Crosby said. “He’s got a lot of length. He’s somebody who can protect the rim. He can do a lot of different things. He can do probably whatever coach asks him. He’s going to be physically able to do it.”

I see you've changed your mind on partial qualifiers.

Paul is right that the UD zealots were always above accepting partial qualifiers. I could never understand why if they graduated.

Xavier brought in partial qualifiers that kicked our ass for years and for all accounts were decent students and graduated.

I don't believe that Kostas is technically a partial qualifier, but Big Steve was. You couldn't find a better person than Big Steve.

Scoochie's replacement ... #25 McKinley Wright

http://www.daytondailynews.com/sport...acRxfqDrWSmyK/

The really cool thing about the video of the last second shot is that it was the only points scored by the kid that took the shot. Watch the crowd in the background. This is what fucking basketball is all about.

Will Wade can EHOMFDH in Baton Rouge

But we still have yet to have any one player, let alone two, go to a high school certificate mill and STILL be ruled a partial qualifier........

Really looking forward to Wright getting here. The bonus for him is he already has a college body...he won't be junior/senior year Schoochie but he's more ready than what Freshman Scoochie was.
