Rice is a straight up bad coach who went 1-2 against A10 teams when he was coaching Rutgers to the bottom of the Big East.
I don't necessarily agree with the above. Prior to the Rutgers job, Rice coached Robert Morris to a first place finish in each of his three years. His record against the A-10 doesn't mean much to me. At the time he was at Rutgers the money in the athletic department was going to the football program. Their bb facilities were not good by any stretch of the imagination, and the debacle extended to Eddie Jordan's tenure.

Now, whether the spots on the leopard that is his temperament can change is a whole different story. If he is hired, and can bring some of the players from his Patrick or Roselle Catholic teams with him, the Dukes talent level will increase quite a bit.

Shit, the guy was breaking rules coaching at some small Texas high school.

Mike Rice can be argued as deserving a second chance, but I don't argue that because he's been a crappy coach, nevermind an asshole.
I agree 13. At that level, second chances should be granted but you don't foul up twice. I'm not saying always take a guy in if he's a proven repeat offender. But I think Rice got a bad deal. You can cut and paste video from any coach and come up with a "worst of" highlight reel. Too bad he offended the wrong demographic.
Bill Russell likes this.

Mike Rice beat Villanova in the 2010 NCAAs, although the record doesn't show it, due to one of the worst series of awful calls I've ever seen in a basketball game.

From Matt Vautour
Quote:
According to multiple sources, Florida Gulf Coast coach Joe Dooley could be emerging as the focus of UMassí search to replace Derek Kellogg, who was fired a week ago.

Dooley has led the Eagles to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. FGSU was eliminated from the tournament by Florida State, Thursday.

According to different sources, UMass has had contact with Monmouth coach King Rice as well.

Moving quickly has considerable advantages for Bamford in the current search climate.

Currently there are bigger jobs and smaller jobs open but no similar caliber vacancies to UMass, which means itís likely pursuing candidates different from the other open positions.

That could change if the Minutemen wait. Indiana, Washington, Illinois and LSU all have openings. Their hires could create domino openings that would create competition for Dooley, Rice and anyone else UMass might be targeting.

Re: Coaching Carousel

Jeff Goodman just tweeted out that Will Wade has "emerged" as the leading candidate for the LSU job...both sides met today.

Wow if that happens.

That and the fact that if he puts together even half-decent seasons he'll get tourney bids.

Re: Coaching Carousel

Rumor has it that King Rice of Monmouth is headed to Duquesne. I am thrilled if that is true.

update: I may have jumped the gun on this. Apparently Kelsey is in the running too.
