For the same reason I agreed UMass shouldn't want him I'd say the same about Duquesne. You might ride a hot player to a decent season or two but that team (Mon) looked like shit in their NIT game.

Not sure we should judge teams on their NIT performances. Something about glass houses.

I am torn on King Rice. They did knock off some good teams last season and that was not due to them being more talented than the opponent. At the same time, his inability to win the MAAC brings up question marks.

I would say Duquesne can do better, but can they? That's not a knock on Duquesne, I was saying worse about Fordham last season. Wait, maybe that is a knock on Duquesne, but I said worse about Fordham last season, so I said it in my own glass house.

Ace, if you said this last year... but Monmouth was not an NCAA team this year. So I wouldn't buy any "letdown" or other excuses for poor play. I didn't particularly care for a certain other team's performance last season either, even with the usual bag of excuses for it.

Also, I've seen Monmouth play a couple other times in Friday night MAAC games. They always look like that, they're just usually playing the average MAAC garbage.

Monmouth won the regular season title and lost in the conference tournament, so I could understand a letdown after two seasons in a row of missing out on making the dance.

I did say I was torn on him though. You cite some of the reasons I am torn. I am not convinced he is that much of an upgrade over Ferry.

The NIT hangover is a real thing for a team slighted by the committee. Please never infer about that nightmare again, ace!

We need AA to tell us what's going on with Wade.

Jeez, public offers while you still have a head coach on staff?

Re: Coaching Carousel

With his ties to Clemson, that's the one I worry about. And it's also not just about losing Wade, but losing another top recruiting class in the span of 2 years would be a real blow.

Coach Wade has been talking to the AD Ed M. about program enhancements. A plane from LSU flew in to meet with Coach Wade. They left and on the way back and they called Tom Crean. Brad Brownell will stay at Clemson. Coppin State fired their coach and they are calling Chris Mooney.
In all seriousness though, VCU is committed to the basketball program and want Coach Wade to stay. He has everything he needs to succeed at VCU. He can recruit top 25 classes, fly to visits and trips on a chartered jet, practice in a state of the art facility, etc (Ric Flair would be jealous). I feel good that Wade will stay and continue to build the program. People love to point toward the transient nature of coaches at VCU. It is pretty obvious too. VCU knows this and they would love Will Wade to be like Mark Few. The big question is whether he wants to commit. Nobody comes knocking if you are not worth the time of day. VCU wins so they come calling. I would say from my talks with people in the know I am 85% he will stay. Much better than yesterday. I have a feeling that it will move to 100% soon. I am saying a feeling so we sit and wait.

I have no knowledge on what Wade will do, but thought it was pretty cool he took the team to see the Spiders play last night. Bitter rivals supporting each other.
