You are correct.

The NCAA is trying out some new rules to speed up college basketball during the 2017 NIT. The biggest one has team fouls resetting 10 minutes into each half as a way to combat games being turned into free throw shooting contests when both teams are in the double bonus.

Resetting team fouls has been the biggest argument for menís college basketball moving from two halves to four quarters. Womenís college basketball recently made the switch to quarters, leaving the menís college game as the last bastion of the two halves format. This experiment is a workaround to keep the game at two halves while still getting the benefits of a four-quarter system.

8 seems like a big number to me, based on team ratings I'd anticipate 5-6. And these NIT games really don't produce a huge homecourt advantage to begin with due to the short turnaround for tickets and the letdown from not making the big dance. Let's go Spiders!

Do you get any money for winning NIT games?

Oakland restores my faith in the little guy, but I'm sorry Clemson is not a good team. Valpo got smoked and I'm rethinking any excitement I had about the prospect of them in the A10. The top team in Horizon gets blown off the floor by Illinois and the team that tied them needs a miraculous run to down Clemson. Monmouth looked like they needed a prayer to get a win and it wasn't answered.. at home no less.

Now, let's go Richmond. They look good. Susceptible to the inside out game, but IMO, look more athletic and quicker than Bama.

If they could just shoot the damn ball they would be playing in the tournament IMO. Richmond certainly has a flawed roster but I wanted to believe in them.

Not the right game for officials to start calling Cline for the obvious off-arm fouls.

Edit to add: well done, Spiders. Not the upset they made it sound like but a solid P5 road W. And bonus hosting Oakland.

Re: Richmond in the NIT ...

Congratulations to the Richmond Spiders on the 71-64 win over Alabama. Way to beat a P5 team. Dino Gaudio was singing the praises of SEC schools. Not giving the A-10 much respect. He even picked Oakland over the Spiders in the next game because he said that the Horizon League champions are faster!

What a homer! Us Dayton fans will be cheering for you to take down Oakland and continue to make the A-10 proud! T.J. Cline is one heck of a player!

Re: Richmond in the NIT ...

Well done, Richmond. Way to prove once again that 10-8 in the SEC is absolutely not better than 13-5 in the A-10. Hell, Alabama got to play 3 A-10 teams this year - Dayton and Richmond at home, SLU on a neutral court - and still only went 1-2.

I only got to watch the second half, but it was damn entertaining to watch Alabama - so much bigger and more athletic and not badly coached - be just completely lost against Richmond's spacing and passing and be constantly fumbling the ball against Richmond's quick, active defense. You could almost feel Alabama thinking how are these guys doing this to us?

Valparaiso lost their best player (and Horizon League POY) to injury prior to the Horizon League tournament and proceeded to be knocked out by 8-23 UW-Milwaukee. That was not the Valpo team that existed through February.

A little off topic here, but you mentioned Alabama playing three A10 teams. It seems like SEC teams are the P5 teams that have been willing to play home and away series with Dayton. We've played Ole Miss, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Alabama a lot over the past five or six years.
