This kid is an interesting prospect. His recruitment picked up this spring, and multiple A10 schools, as well as Georgetown, offered him. Bona and Rhody had offered a while back. The latter of the two filled its rides last week, though.

Interesting. Barring a transfer, or someone otherwise leaving the program, this would leave Grant with only one scholarship for 2018. From afar, I thought they might bring a 'big' as a grad transfer. Mikesell will coming off surgery to both hips, its possible he misses the whole season. Miller will be coming off a broken ankle, and Cunningham has not been the picture of health. Hopefully, they can add some muscle to Toppin.

Yeah, this doesn't seem to be a good thing for Sam Miller, maybe even Mikesell. A stretch 4 wasn't a big need, unless AG knows something about injuries or doesn't care for the existing talent at the 4/5. We have Kostas, Xeyrius, Svoboda, Toppin, and Mikesell and Miller (possibly) fighting for minutes at the 3 and 4. If Jordan Pierce has any ability to play defense I see him backing up Cunningham.

I think it's a combo of both. Miller and Mikesell just aren't the type of playes AG has recruited in his career. I don't think Miller would have ever been looked at by Grant. Mikesell maybe. I like Mikesell a lot but his hip surgeries are going to make it tough for him to insert himself back into this lineup.

Grant probably recruits better than what Miller could (at Dayton at least). We will see if his bench coaching is as good.

Dayton has gone from the consistently undersized team to the now oversized team if Miller is healthy.

6'8
6'9
6'9
6'10
6'11

With another 6'7 wing in Matej. Even the guards are fairly decent sized compared to KD and Scoochie.

Grant brings a completely different look to the roster. These types of players worked out well for Grant at VCU, not so much at Alabama. Hopefully, it translates to A10 play which I think it will.

Re: 2017-2018 Dayton Flyers

http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/spo...jN2JmqFugAFMI/

"However, if Toppin hadn’t spent an extra year getting ready for college at Mt. Zion Prep in Baltimore, he wouldn’t have gotten a chance to play for the Flyers.

“That’s what made me basically,” Toppin said. “Before I went to Mt. Zion, I didn’t have one offer. I was going to end up going to Monroe, a JUCO school (in New York City).”

Toppin was a late bloomer. He was 6-foot-2 as a sophomore, his high school coach Michael Casey said. When he arrived at Ossining as a junior, he battled pain in his knees because he was growing. Casey was the junior varsity coach that season but became the varsity head coach when Toppin was a senior.

As a senior, Toppin was 6-5. Casey wanted him to play inside because of his height. He quickly realized Toppin was more comfortable on the wing.

Toppin grew another four inches at Mt. Zion. He is now 6-foot-9, 200 pounds. He averaged 17 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists this past season and started earning more attention from scouts.

Georgia was the first major program to offer him a scholarship. He took official visits to Dayton and Rhode Island and unofficial visits to Georgetown and Fordham. His mom, Roni Toppin, and uncle, Victor Manaros, joined him for the trip to Dayton where he toured campus and UD Arena like every recruit who comes to town.

“I’ve never seen a college gym like that,” Toppin said.

While on campus, Toppin played with Kostas Antetokounmpo and Scoochie Smith among others. Smith, who’s from the Bronx, 26 miles south of Ossining, helped sell UD to Toppin just as helped with the last recruit to sign, point guard Jalen Crutcher.

Re: 2017-2018 Dayton Flyers

You guys seem to be bringing in a lot of size, but size without talent isn't going to get you very far. If these players are talented as well then Dayton will be scary.

Here is how the A10 teams ranked in terms of height last season

1 - GW
2 - UMass
3 - SLU
4 - URI
5 - Fordham
6 - Davidson
7 - SJU
8 - SBU
9 - La Salle
10 - Duq
11 - Dayton
12 - VCU
13 - UR
14 - GMU

Notice that the teams that finished 1-3 in the A10 last year were 3 of the 4 shortest teams.

Is that total inches on the roster? or inches per minute played?

And yes, there are plenty of jokes available in those questions...

Average height weighted by minutes played. In the simplified case of 3 players with the following stats...

6'6 (78 inches), 20 minutes
6'4 (76 inches), 30 minutes
6'2 (74 inches), 10 minutes

... the weighted average would not be 6'4 (76.0 inches), but (78*20 + 76*30 + 74*10)/(20 + 30 + 10) = 76.3 inches. Players who don't play do not contribute to the weighted average, while players who play the most contribute the most.
