Those of you of a certain age will remember the late, great Sam Kinison. He had a shtick about that, though it involved a related physical attachment to same. I saw Kinison live once -- absolutely hilarious and so incredibly debased that you couldn't have even taken Bill Russell there and still felt good about yourself.

Jordan Davis, a 6-foot-4 senior guard at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., met with new Dayton coach Anthony Grant on Friday and then sent a message to the Dayton Daily News.

“I’m going to stay!” Davis wrote.

Davis said the meeting went well. He thinks Grant will do a good job at UD and he’s looking forward to attending UD.

Davis averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists a a senior. He was named the Class 5A Player of the Year in South Carolina. He finished his career as Dutch Fork’s all-time leading scorer.

I felt all along that Davis would stay committed, mainly because of AG's contacts in the SE plus Frank Martin is a friend. With Davis being from Columbia, SC it seemed to add up. I ranked Jordan as the second best recruit behind McKinley Wright

Naz Carter, from the Olean suburb Rochester, met with AG. Carter has a "high ceiling" since he will be 17 when school starts. AG is 6'5" so Naz is a legitimate 6'6".

I guess this is good news, but I will be surprised if Wright stays committed.

Someone posted that three schools are involved. UD, IU and our friend Will Wade at LSU

Jaffy, you're going to take Jordan Davis out for pizza with regularity, he looks very lean.

I'm with you, Jaffie. I've got a wife and 3 daughters. All future dogs will be male; that rule has already been established.

Naz Carter is reclassifying to 2018 and will prep. This has become a cruel, cold world of college basketball. Schools don't mean shit anymore--just the used car salesmen with the AAU ties who leapfrog from one gig to the next.

I don't know jack about what motivated this kid to go the prep route, but there is no doubt someone whispering in his ear that he can go big time with another year under his belt. The truly disgusting part of college basketball recruiting are the "handlers" running the AAU system pushing kids in a direction that benefits the handlers. I think that this is the reason behind 500 transfers every year.

I want to say fuck this kid, but it's not completely his fault.. you've got 17 and 18 year olds being [mis]guided by these greasy bastards who you know just take their kickbacks quietly and move on to the next puppet.

Re: 2017-2018 Dayton Flyers

The more I follow recruiting, the more I'm convinced that everyone of these kids have an ego bigger than their imagination. They love tweeting out the recruiting process. None of these kids commit to a school...they commit to the coaches and there's no doubt that when they commit that ego gets shrunken a little because they aren't the focus anymore.

Enter stage left a chance to do this all over again, and they do. Now Wright will get to make another YouTube video of him brushing his teeth in the morning and putting on the hat of the school he picks. Over and over and over. These guys would do it 4-5 times if they could.

And for the record, I'm predicting under 16 wins next year for Dayton and if the number is 15, I'll be happy.

Re: 2017-2018 Dayton Flyers

Coaching changes and recruits decommitting go hand in hand. The sneaker companies, AAU programs and the growth of the basketball schools like Oak Hill have made recruiting something lower than a snake's belly. For Dayton, I think Grant is a well spoken good looking guy who will make a good impression on the recruit and his family. The problem is getting in to meet with recruits. He has been away from the college scene for a few years and I would think his 'contacts' in the recruiting world have dissipated. Hopefully he can bring people with those contacts on board as assistants, and do so soon.

I don't really blame Carter. He was recruited because Erik Williams, Daryl Moresell and Anthony Gaines committed to UC, Maryland and Northwestern, and blew up some his senior year. A prep year was probably a logical choice for him if Dayton didn't offer vs. the few other offers that he had in hand. His mother apparently wanted him to stay with Dayton though, and said that Dayton was still in consideration. This is where the greasy bastards fuck up things for the kid and his/her family. The mother loves UD, wants him to go there but respects his decision, and doesn't immediately realize that Grant may not recruit him for 2018. Wright is a different story. His handlers are really involved in the process.

Re: 2017-2018 Dayton Flyers

John Crosby has been given his release and will transfer. Coupled with the decommitment of McKinley Wright, UD as of now has no point guards on the roster. Any posters out there with eligibility?
