Re: 2017-2018 St. Bonaventure Bonnies

If Ayeni smooths out his rough edges (footwork, defend without fouling) and improves his game from raw-but-good freshman to consistent-good-or-better sophomore, then this Bona team will play its way into the top tier of the A10. The backcourt will be excellent. Plenty of experience/chemistry/hunger. To me, Ayeni is the wild card.

What about Ikpeze? 6'10 players do not grow on trees. I think that Ayeni and Ikpeze can work together to make life easier for each player. They could be a formidable twin towers.

Would love that scenario to play out. And it's certainly possible. Based on what we saw last season, Ayeni is the more advanced of the two. If he takes a big step forward, he could be a beast.

Re: 2017-2018 St. Bonaventure Bonnies

I'm not sure I'd call Ayeni more advanced as an overall basketball player. He certainly has the face up game polished pretty well; however, Ikpeze, to me, understands the game much better in a variety of areas.

His understanding of spacing, hedge/recover defense, and basic boxing out is beyond Ayeni right now. The issue is Ikpeze needs to continue to condition himself to play bigger minutes. He's raw offensively, but the more important thing is to make that 6'10" 250 lbs. frame more efficient (i.e., lose the baby fat, add muscle).

Add the returning bigs to a capable JUCO in Ndene Gueye, and I'm very optimistic about the front line going forward.

I sometimes think I dreamed it, but this link from a post on the Bandwagon reinforces my tenuous grip on sanity. From the long defunct Buffalo Courier Express, proof that Buffalo was really once one of the greatest college basketball towns in the country. Only a couple of AHL stories "mar" the front page of the day's sports section.

A different college basketball world back then. The next game for Niagara was a home game on campus vs. Villanova, while the Brown Indians next game would be at home against DePaul.

Re: 2017-2018 St. Bonaventure Bonnies

As noted on the Bandwagon, Bona has drawn Maryland in the 1st round of the Emerald Coast Classic.

As Bill Russell's good friend Jon Rothstein reports:

"Maryland will play St. Bonaventure and TCU will face New Mexico in the opening round of the 2017 Emerald Coast Classic, multiple sources told FanRag Sports.

The event will take place on Nov. 24-25 in Niceville, Fla. Official tip-off times are yet to be determined."

This is the matchup we wanted. Now, let's hope our boys take care of business.

Now here is some fine journalism on terrapin station. Thanks to fjs64 over on the Bandwagon for the link.

"The annual tournament will take place in Niceville, Fla. and it features four teams. TCU faces New Mexico and the winner takes on Maryland for the tournament championship."

They already wired the money to the officiating crew (Gary Prager, Larry Scirotto, Anthony Franklin). .4 million.

In all fairness, the author does state that the tournament does give the Twerps a chance for a few marquee wins.

So, there's that -- not complete disrepect.

I believe I'll be at the game with my Twerp alum of a son.
