Visiting UMass Travel Guide

Will start a thread for UMass for the EpicFailGuy to link in.

This is a short summary of game day links from UMass and others as TripAdvisor etc. There are some links on places to eat and to stay and finally the Basketball Hall of Fame and at least one other family activity. Personally live 25 miles away and ask others to contribute.

Some links and generally eat at the Hanger, which is in walking distance to McGuirk. Have not gone there immediately after a football game thou and like the dry rubs, believe it's a cajun something rub and one of the porter 22 oz beers.

The Amherst Guide from a specific event has some info but would ignore some of it. But it gives nice price ranges on some the the restaurants.

Here is the separate TripAdvisor link:

Lodging, have been told the HotelUmass is very good and on campus. It's a close walk to the Mullins and there is parking by Campus Center and connects below ground and above ground.

The Hampshire Hospitality Group has nice options and well regarded and out on route 9 about a mile from the stadium.

In nearby Northampton and highly recommend the Eastside Cafe. The seafood chowder is excellent and in fact everything I've tried has been really good but recommend reservations.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Families like to visit the Yankee Candle

Don't knock it til you've tried it. They've got a castle inside and a year round santa (at least the last time I went...which was over a decade ago). First time I was being told I was going there I thought it would be kind of dumb, but I unexpectedly enjoyed myself.

Also definitely hit up the Hangar. A few years back they took over the ABC's location (Amherst Brewing Company) to get a much larger spot - kept the entire Hangar menu intact and also kept the brewery portion of the ABC as well as some of the apps. Basically merged them together and kept all the good stuff. In addition to the beers they make there, they typically also just have a ton on tap. If you've ever had anything from the Wings Over franchise, the Hangar right off campus that started that whole thing.

An evolving Travel Guide sounds like a great idea. I just don't know how big one would be for Olean. Aside from the Beef n Barrel and the local junior hockey league, what else is there?

Spring wine tasting tonight. Fire company boot drive all weekend. Horse trail ride tomorrow. Something for every flavor.

And yes, that's Greater Olean Chamber of Commerce.. as in Olean Metropolitan Region. The Times Herald covers 5 counties. You know the staff you have to assemble to get lawn dart scores from McKean County, PA? Well traveled. Diverse. They even have an Amish correspondent.

That actually sounds like a real nice weekend. And its a LOT better than what Dayton has going on - I think Billy Ray Cyrus is covering Miley Cyrus songs at the VFW hall.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Steve. As Forrest Gump once said, I'm sorry I ruined your Black Panther party.

Can't argue with that.

Some Nag Champa and Black Crowes bootleg and I'm good to go.

To get back to the visitor's guide stuff, if you're into hiking and other nature like activities:

And for another breakfast spot, I went here a ton because I lived in Hadley when I was a student: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-stables-restaurant-hadley

see note above

There is also Sugar Loaf near Yankee Candle that you hike or drive to the top, like to one of the seven sister peaks, Skinner House.
