Re: Basel's Cornucopia of Random Thoughts
That's one of the few places I haven't worked.

Re: Basel's Cornucopia of Random Thoughts
Keep in mind as I list these that most of the time in my life I've had 2 or sometimes even 3 jobs simultaneously.
So from the time I was 13 I worked in the electronics department at Sears trying out new video games before they hit the market and then selling them to kids who came in to spend their parents money. When I was 14 I started cutting lawns for a large landscaping operation. That same summer, I helped my dad with his newspaper route. When I was 15 I started working in a bakery near my house doing behind the house stuff. Occasionally I got to decorate cakes and cupcakes. I never had to deal with the customers, so it was fine. I guess I was 16 when I started working for I Can Learn Education Systems. I used to take these math lessons plans lesson plans that were created by teachers for grades 4-9 and create the practice problem sets at the end of the chapters. Later, I went on to advise more on the programming and graphics end of software design. I started working at The Times-Picayune in the summer between my junior and senior year in high school. While there I worked in the circulation, data/communications, advertising, and lagniappe departments. The following summer was when I started working in the online learning group for Words & Numbers. My official classification there was independent contractor. All the work I did was web-based. There office at the time was in the Baltimore area. Later that year I did more independent contracting work for the Discovery Channel Video page. They had this giant catalogue of educational videos. My job was to go through each one, identify where the logical places to put chapter breaks for advertisement purposes would be, and then to create the list of search terms for search engines. I coached NAIA basketball for 3 years at Loyola University. I started as video coordinator, then did some scouting, some recruiting visits, and eventually became lead assistant. Lots of game-planning, keeping track of time-outs, monitoring substitutions, and then twice even coaching the game when the coach got tossed for arguing calls. I later taught Algebra, Geometry, Trig, and Calculus at two different schools. At one of them I also moderated the Mu Alpha Theta team and coached the girls basketball team. At the other school I was in charge of Quiz Bowl and the ACT Prep course. This led me to start my own independent ACT Prep agency. The customer base only flourished for about 18 months. After Huricane Katrina, I resettled in Moon Lake, MS. There I worked as a consultant to an architectural firm doing floor plan layouts and basic 2D AutoCAD work. I also worked as an assistant to one of the actuarys on the Property and Casualty Insurance Commission over at the Louisiana Department of Insurance in Baton Rouge. Lot of grunt work. Data entry and paper filing and stuff. I worked as a cold-caller for awhile at the Louisiana chapter of Rhino Marketing. That was a super crappy job. I only lasted a few months. It was sucking my soul. My current job is Building Information Modeling Manager at the MCC Group. We basically make 3D models of building before they get built. I used to actually coordinate jobs and do CAD drawings, but now I just oversee the process and make sure things run smoothly. I still do consultation work on the side for an expert witness. I mostly check phone records and run regression models and other statistical analysis. I'm sure I left something out. It's hard to remember everything at this point.

Re: Basel's Cornucopia of Random Thoughts
Wow, that's a ton of jobs. Started when you were 13? Crazy. But that's awesome. Great experience, I'm sure. Happy with what you're doing now?

Re: Basel's Cornucopia of Random Thoughts
A minute-long instrumental by this dude Jon Brion. First heard it in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, has been on loop in my brain ever since.
