Re: Million Post thread,
That class actually is usually pretty good - I build rapport largely with humor when teaching, and a lot of that doesn't work here because they don't get what I'm talking about, but it works a lot better in that class.
I dunno. I'm making progress, there's just some iffy classes in the bunch. |

Re: Million Post thread,
It's generally alright. I do like the students, but there's just some here and there that basically aren't interested. Our classes don't really matter when it comes to testing and such that they do, so they don't much care. I think I manage alright.
Typically the awkward is my own doing because I'm making references and quips out the wazoo and they're just looking at me like I'm crazy. |

Re: Million Post thread,
I pick a quote each week that usually coincides with what we're doing or that I just enjoy and they tend to usually read it out loud to themselves (which is more speaking than they'll often do if you don't get on 'em). This week, the high/lowlight has been them not having any idea who Yoda is (which reminds me of Basel's non-Star Wars self, actually).
A lot of times they know what I'm talking about, but only after(/if) a high level kid in the class gets it and then says the Chinese word for it. Sometimes I'll try to use drawings to help, but I'm terrible at them. My new thing is using a lot of pictures to supplement whatever I'm talking about. Goes down easier. Just remembered the other fun part about this week. One of the pictures I was using for an activity was of a flashlight, but they're all over the whole "torch" thing. |

Less than two weeks to go before this quarter ends and winter break is here. Can't wait.

Re: Million Post thread,
Nobody seems to want to be in the Christmas spirit this year, and that annoys me, so I went out and bought some decorations, lights, ornaments and will be putting up and decorating the tree today. Last year my parents didn't even put a tree up - I'm like, "What's wrong with you guys? Are you serious?" So I'm taking over this year.

Re: Million Post thread,
Count me as one of those guys. And it's not just this year, it's every year.
I'm all for the gathering together with friends and family, I get that. It's walking into any retail store, coffee shop, or basically anywhere outside when you hear Christmas jingles and it's November and you want to go back in time and stop the ploy to commercialize holidays wherever it started. |
