Haha, very funny Kansasalumn. Colorado's coach? You're just saying that because they beat you, but in reality he's one of the worst game coaches in the conference.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Quin will be the coach of the year. MU's had to face a lot of adversity and I have a feeling that they're going to go on a major roll starting right now. They won't end up with the best record in the conference, but Quin's done more with less than a lot of the coaches in the conference.

As for player of the year, it's too early to tell, but I would say right now it's between Collison and Johnson. For newcomer I would have said Clemons until he was arrested, but that negative publicity will probably ensure that he doesn't get it. I would bet that the Nebraska Johnson gets it. He was the preseason newcomer of the year anyway. For freshman, of course it has to be Niang. I mean, no one's even close.

For Coach, it is very hard. Patton, Sutton, or Barnes. It is just way too hard to find the best coach. For year end, my vote would be between Sutton or Barnes.

POY. What Collison had done against UT, jsut shows he is the best player. Again this is hard to choose too. You can go to NC, or to Kirk Hinrich, or to Author Johnson or to Andre Emmitt or to Hollis Price,or even to TJ Ford.

Frosh/Newcomer. You are right it is hard to pick. That is why I need to do some research. Johnson from Nebraska could be the front runner. There are some good Iowa State JUCO players. There is one on the team looks like a vampire. LOL. Clemons was my pick before teh arrested thing. Freshman, there is really no one that really comes to my mind. Is there anyone acutally making an impact to be Freshman of the year?

Bookout is probably the freshman of the year, and now that you mention it, TJ Ford is probably the player of the year. Hinrich hasn't done nearly was Ford has, and Collison can't get in on one game against UT. As for Johnson, he has four double doubles in five conference games, and was three rebounds away in the fifth game. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'd assume that his stats throughout the conference season so far are better than Collison's. I'll check that out right now to be sure, but I don't think I'm wrong.

Through five conference games each AJ and Collison have nearly identical stats. AJ has 99 total points, 58 total rebounds and six total blocks, while Collison has 97 total points, 54 total rebounds and seven total blocks. But without the 23 rebound game rebounds really wouldn't be close, as Collison only had 31 through the other four games. Collison only has one double double to AJ's four. I'd say that right now AJ has to be ahead of Collison in terms of POY voting, because he has basically the same stats but is more consistent.

I just checked assists as well, and it's seven to six in favor of Collison. But based off of what I saw against Nebraska AJ's assists will start to go up a little, as will the assists for the team as a whole. AJ could get to the point where he's getting 2 or 3 a game instead of just over 1.

As for Ford, through five games he has 95 total points, 30 total rebounds (as a sub six foot point guard) and 32 total assists. He has to be the front runner right now for not only Conference POY, but maybe national player of the year as well.

I said freshman/newcomer. So it could be a JUCO player too or a Div 1 transfer for that award

So Far!

POY- T.J. Ford- If it isn't for him Texas isn't very good!

COY- Eddie Sutton- Okie State was expected to not be too good, but Sutton has done a great job coaching!

NOY- Ricky Clemons- I can't really think of another newcomer, but we all saw what happened to Mizzou's offense against OSU!

Coach- for anyone NOT to say Eddie Sutton shows their homerism. Picked to finish 6th in the conference, and they've moved up to #9 in one of the polls.

POY- TJ Ford

Newcomer- Tony Allen

Freshman- Kevin Bookout

As of right now Sutton is the coach of the year, but I don't think they'll be able to continue to play as well as they have. They still have a game against KU, another game against Texas (I think) and another one against OU, and at least one against Tech as well.

One thing I do know is that the newcomer of the year for next season will be Jason Conley for Mizzou. The Big XII won't know what hit 'em.
