Who is the best team in the big 12?
i know that the most common response would be kansas. but why is kansas better. i know they have miles, hinrich, langford, simien, and collison but do they have anyone else? do they have the depth to beat texas? texas has ford, mouton, ivey, boddiker, and thomas which is a good starting 5. then on the bench they have freshman kenton paulino and brad buchman, sydmill harris, erksin, and klotz as good bench depth. i don't really know much about oklahoma. i can't find their roster to know who they still have and i can't remember. so who do you think is the best and why? i would go with texas because i think ford is the best point in the country, thomas is a top post player who can compete with guys like collison, and mouton and ivey are both double digit scorers to go with ford and thomas.

I personally think it is Kansas as the best team, but I am being bias. To be truthful, I think the BEST BIG 12 team is the Oklahoma Sooners. They have so much depth, and expereince. KU really has no one past the three Super sophs and the two seniors. Guard wise, we are solid with Hawkins, Lee, Vinson. Forwards, we have Nash, Graves and Niang, but Graves is in the doghouse to being 30 pounds overweight. He suppose to be one of the top JUCO transfers. If we get in foul trouble, say bye bye to KU. I sitll think we will make to the NCAA's as a 2-3 seed, and Elite 8 the farthest to go. And I am a die hard Kansas fan. mduke would agree that Oklahome is truly the best big 12 team, but I think KU overall has the most talent.

I honestly don't think Texas is deserving of that top 5 ranking....right now I'd rank them 10-15.....
Yes, I think OU is the best team THIS YEAR. But we lose Price, Ere, White, and possibly Detrick next year.....It really is a toss-up between KU-OU, I think Texas definitely will not win the Big 12 South, let alone the Big 12.....
rocketeer: Here are some players from OU. Almost everyone is back besides McGhee and Selvy....
G- Hollis Price
G- Quannas White
G- Ebi Ere
C- Jabahri Brown
G/F- Jason Detrick
F- Kevin Bookout(freshman)
G/F- DeAngelo Alexander(freshman)
F/C- Johnnie Gilbert
G- Blake Johnston
Again, those are only the guys that will see significant playing time, I'll post more about some other players in the Big XII South Preview

Depth is overrated!
You look at last years Kansas' squad.
We had a tremendous starting line-up but our depth wasn't great. We played a 8 man game. We only brought Ballard in if we needed to steal some minutes.
Our Bench this year is actually deeper then last years.
Our main player off the bench will be Jeff Graves. If anyone was at Late Night, Jeff Graves didn't look like a bunch of reports would lead you to believe. He was a bit chubby, but looked all muscle.
We have a twig big man in Moulaye Niang. I could break him in half. But he does have a great touch outside and can block many shots in the lane. He is listed at 7-0. But when he stood next to Moody (6-7), he looked more like he was 7-2.
The player who will decide the difference will be Jeff Hawkins. Hawkins has amazing ball control with major depth on his shot. He isn't as accurate as Boschee, but he does have better range.
Nash seems to be the most improved out there. Nash knocked down some big 3's at Late Night and showed good defense. We will be 8 or 9 man deep. We might not have as much talent this year off the bench, but we do have some good players on the bench who will be able to give us very valuable minutes.
If anyone knows me, they know I am not very bias (only when it comes to my Dallas Cowboys). But I do feel OU and Kansas are on the same level. But I question OU's skill in the post. Mchgee is a huge loss.

"Our Bench this year is actually deeper then last years."
No its not. Quality depth is better than quanity depth. You're not fooling anything with that nonsense.
"He was a bit chubby, but looked all muscle"
How can someone be a little chubby but at the same time be all muscle? Sorry that just made me laugh. I've seen Graves play before, before he was a whale and he could afford to lose some weight.
"We have a twig big man in Moulaye Niang"
If you guys have to rely on Niang for minutes next season, Ku is in a lot more trouble than I thought. NIang wont contribute this year, I promise and I would be more than surprised to see him play more than 4 to 5 minutes a game. Minute Bol's long lost cousin will be sitting on the bench next season rather than adding any sort of depth. He needs time and I am sure Roy is smart enough to figure that one out.
"The player who will decide the difference will be Jeff Hawkins. Hawkins has amazing ball control with major depth on his shot. He isn't as accurate as Boschee, but he does have better range"
Dont even compare Hawkins to Boschee. Thats just a slap in the face to Jeff.
As for depth being overrated. I am a Duke fan, so I can agree with that statement, however, there are other variables that you need to add to make that statement true. Depth is not needed if you have players that can play numerous positions, like a Dunleavy or a Battier. Ku doesnt have versatility at the forward spots and that is why I think you will see their lack of depth and in general lack of talent off the bench, hurt Ku a lot!!
