No Silent, I do live in Memphis. I know some people on here who can back me up on that. I just don't like the University of Memphis. You are not forced to like your local university. I am a huge Grizzlies fan, and I am a huge Memphis Redbirds/Riverkings fan. Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let me explain to you why this won't happen. Memphis is of the Fourth Tier academically. This is a tier or two or three lower than all Big East schools. It would bring them down greatly academically. That is 50% of what these conferences are looking at. Then you have the next 25%, that would be geography. Memphis is closer to Phoenix than it is to Syracuse. It is in the Central part of America and it would be rediculous if they overlooked that. The final 25% goes to how good they are in sports. Just maybe they will be accepted if they are an outstanding sports school. To bad that they aren't. The University of Memphis has never won an NCAA championship in any sport. Their football team hasn't had a winning season even with their weak schedule in decades. It was just about to be canceled not to long ago and there is still talk of them doing that. I don't believe that they have a hockey team, even though there are different conferences in college hockey.
Their basketball team only made the Final Four when one of the best players just happened to be from the city of Memphis so he commited to Memphis. Well, you would think now that they have John Calipari recruiting from all over the nation it would be different. That is a very wrong assumption. Every good player that John Calipari recruits goes to the NBA without even setting foot in the University of Memphis. There was one exception, who was Dajuan Wagner. Wagner only stayed around one year and to do that, Calipari had to hire his dad as his assistant coach and let his best friend onto the basketball team also. And it always also seems that whenever he gets his super teams they can never make it into the second round of the NCAA's. Their baseball team is also a disgrace to the South. There are not many logical reasons why Memphis would join the Big East. I could accept them joining the SEC though. If Missouri goes to the Big Ten, and Arkansas goes to the Big 12 where they belong, then Memphis should take the open slot in the SEC. Their academics are on the same level, and they are in the same general area. It would be the most logical solution.
