Prediction Time, Big East style

The season is getting so close. Can't wait to watch Pitt disappoint people, Dominic James break out and Paul Harris look like a shorter Carmello throughout the season (and maybe even March). Here are my predictions for the Big East this year.

1. In terms of standings I believe either St. Johns or DePaul (or both) will be the surprise team and finish in the top 5 of a stacked big east.
2. I believe this conference is so stacked that 9 teams (yes 9) will make the tourney from the BE this year.
3. I also think the Pitt team is incredibly overrated and I'm confused why their cupcake schedule is never cited for why their record has been (and will be) so inflated. They are well coached but they're not a top 10 team this year...sorry Panther fans.
4. Marquette and G'town will duke it out for the top spot and I truly believe (despite an amazing season from DJames) the Hoyas will come out on top.

Here are the standings:

Tournament Teams
1. Georgetown
2. Marquette
3. Pitt
4. Syracuse
5. St. Johns
6. UConn
7. L'ville
8. Villanova

Re: Who is it going to be

Pitt

Although, I like the talent that UConn has. They might be too young, but ya never know with Calhoun at the helm.

Re: Who is it going to be

I really don't understand the love for Pitt that much (#4 in the AP Poll). This team was barely a top 25 team last year.

Anyway, Georgetown is the class of the Big East.

Re: Prediction Time, Big East style

Marquette, Syracuse andn G'town are going to be the real competitors for the BE.

Pitt is wildly overrated...too bad no one is going to find out until January.

I think Conn will be good but it's going to take some time. Dyson and Robinson will be the key. If they can become key players along with Price and Adrien they're going to be very tough to beat come March.

And don't sleep on Depaul and St.Johns they're going to surprise people. Promise.

Re: Prediction Time, Big East style

Pitt is notorious for choking. We all know this. Do you really trust a slow white big man lacking a polished game to lead the way through this conference? Nah, ain't happening.

G'Town has the talent, the experience, and most importantly, the fire to take this conference by storm. I think they'll experience a nice push from Syracuse, UConn, and possibly Louisville -- but ultimately pull it out.

Depaul lost to Northwestern and St. John's got embarrassed last night on national television. I don't think these teams are capable of making the tourney.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a big St. John's fan. And they did play possibly the worst game I've ever seen against Maryland. But they bounced back and played good enough to beat a good Texas team (althought they lost). I would be surprised if they made the tournament, but I don't see why they couldn't at least make a push. It's too early to tell though.

Oh, and I would agree that G-town seems to be the best in the BE this year. They're primed to do big things if they stay healthy.

Re: Prediction Time, Big East style

Like any team from a big 6 conference, if a team turns it around during the conference schedule they will still get a bid.

There is likely one team in the Big East that is struggling a bit right now that will get an invite, because inherently you are likely to have about 7 teams over .500 in a 6 team leauge. And a 9-7 BE team is hard to keep out.

Right now I can't identify see six or seven tournament teams in this conference, but once the season plays out there will be

Best newcomer = Louisville's (and Wauwatosa East High School's own) Jerry Smith.
