Just watched the Weber State team tonight for the first time, playing against Idaho State University. I was very impressed with the team! The were definitely tops out of all the teams we've played this year.

Idaho State has a few pretty good players, but coach Doug Oliver likes to share the wealth, and the ball doesnt' really get into one player's hands consistently. I do like Jeremy Brown a lot, though, and if he'd play the full minutes, he'd have great numbers, although not quite Boyette numbers.

I also like one of our freshman, David Schroeder a lot. He's shown a lot of talent and has a great shot. Not quite sure how he stacks up with the other players around the Big Sky, and I'm not really saying he should be freshman of the year, but he's a player to watch.

I'm sure the Coach of the Year has to go to Weber State's Joe Cravens. They are putting together an incredible season!

Welcome to the basketballboards.net. I am not an expert on the Big Sky. I am originally from Pocatello though. I now live in the Salt Lake area. I have saw Weber play on TV once and heard several of their games on the radio and I listened to ISU play BYU. Do you attend ISU's games? Post what reports, articles and opinions you can.
I think right now Scott Henry is the best candidate for Newcomer of the Year on ISU. Schroeder seems to be putting up decent numbers especially for a freshman. Both Brown and Henry need to step up for Player of the Year consideration. If Oliver can keep them near the top of the conference he will get serious consideration for Coach of the Year. They are performing better than expected

Thanks for the welcome!
I am a sport writer for the university newspaper, and cover the men's basketball team. It's a blast!

Scott Henry is probably our most solid player, followed closely by Brown. Jeremy Brown can be streaky, but when he's on, he's awesome! Great 3-point shooter, penetrator, and rebounder. Makes spectacular passes, too. He made a sweet backdoor pass to Danny Boticki in that Weber State game last night that drew "ooohs" and "ahhhhs" from the crowd. We have an interesting team. I wasn't quite expecting it to play as well as it has up to this point, but am enjoying it!

David Schroeder suffers from "Marquis Poole" syndrome. I'm not a huge Poole fan. He's a spectacular ball-handler, and penetrates VERY well, but he can't shoot at all. And, he seems to hog the ball too much and take too many shots. The other night against Eastern, Schroeder could have easily scored 30 points. He was on fire! But, Poole wouldn't give him the ball. I guess Poole used to play for Eastern and their coach said he'd never be a point guard (or successful one) in the Big Sky. Poole was trying to prove him wrong instead of trying to win the game. Didn't impress me much.

Anyway, enough with my rantings and ravings. I'll be happy to share any info and insight I have.
