A few years ago I'd be ashamed to admit something like this but...
Yo...
I like Paramore, and I like them a lot. No lie. I used to have a problem admitting **** like this but that changed once I opened up to my Kelly Clarkson love. Only reason I listened to Paramore is because my niece wanted me to download some songs for her ipod and there it goes...
Talking about that I need to get an external hard drive, so I can free up a lot of space on my computer. I still need to get all my CDs ripped and then I think I've seen my last CD. I think when I do purchase music it'll be electronic only and most likely I'll be doing that through amazon as I don't like emusic.
Kenna's third album is coming out this year and I'm excited like hell for that (even though it's slated for the summer). Brooklynati is FINALLY coming out in April. 9th Wonder said it's gonna be a big year for him, so that's good. Is Trent Reznor going to be blessing us with more work?
I'm nowhere near as deep in electronica as I've wanted to get so I'll be going further into that this year. Wonder if J*Davey will release a true album this year... I hated them at first but now I love them.
Prince.. mother****ing Prince! I'm still going through his library, but yo.. Prince >> MJ in their respective primes. I love Mike like that weird uncle that's been ostracized from the family, but came out of the gates with some straight heat. He had like five or six just straight burners.. MJ had Off the Wall, and Thriller then he fell off with Bad (something I disagreed fiercely with Minstrel about lol).
Look to get into Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis' work from the 80's. I had the Time albums on a computer that died, but I'm planning on going back with Alexander O'Neal cuts, the Janet Jackson jams, and so on and so forth.
I think Phil Collins is too soft for me. I like some soft ****, but I can't listen to his albums straight. I'd have to break that **** up and put it in a playlist with other songs.
Sometimes things are just dope without an explanation. I'll eventually know why I like them, but not just yet.
Damn...
So right now I think two of my favorite rappers are people that most hip-hop fans have never heard of. It was one thing when it was Talib Kweli, and then MF Doom, but now? Two of my favorite rappers are Von Pea and Elucid from the Lessondary (and more specifically the Loosie Crew). Like, I would personally put them up against any better known rappers and not think twice about it. Von Pea's a lot more accessible and probably more clever, but Elucid is like no other rapper out there. This dude needs to get in front of a real live rock band with chops STAT. He's had two free LPs where he's rapped over a bunch of different tracks from different genres but live **** would sound insane.
I want to expand my collection of vinyl. I bought a turntable last month at Circuit City when they were having their Going Out Of Business sales. It plays pretty well and used records are really cheap.
What's amazing is I think I like Prince, Controversy, and Dirty Mind all more than Purple Rain. Purple Rain is still great but I'm surprised how much more I like the others.
I could never go to vinyl because it'd become too much clutter. It's one thing dealing with comic long boxes but vinyl? Nah.. can't do that.
She said, "Young, why your voice so hoarse?"
I just sound like money baby I shoulda been a Porsche
Paint lookin like a sugar-free Red Bull
I'm so paid, you know I keep a pocketful
Ha ha, and that's before the taxes
Took my whole gross, now they hid it under my mattress
I used to get bored, count 20's for practice
Paper therapy, we let the money relax us
Gold chains 'round my neck just like Michael Phelps
I made a killin in the water, killin with the water
Against all odds and I will not stop
They tried keep me on bottom but I prefer the top
And my project chick I moved her next to Joc
She said the house was too small, I moved her next the block
So baby get ya *** up, I need an extra block
I told her "Do the speed limit, no extra stops"
And that's why
Damn, Joc has some of the most predictable rhymes I've ever seen.
My format would be anything goes. I'd run it where there'd be different genres of music playing with each DJ and set. With the last fifteen minutes of each show there'd be a "blend" where it gently mixes from one shows lean to the next offering a transition for people who'd be interested in listening to the other stuff.
My station probably wouldn't get any sponsorship and would die after a few weeks.
Oh, and I have to say... I was listening to the White Album last night and I'm surprised how much I like it. First few times i listened to it weren't the best experiences, but now I marvel at how "modern" it sounds. Not modern as in pop but kinda modern as in some of the alt stuff that's around today. Or I could be totally off, either works for me.
