Re: Currently Reading
So I've been very hard on Ernest Hemingway after sloging my way through the terrible The Sun Also Rises, however I'm currently about 2/3rds of the way through A Farewell to Arms and I'm terrified that it looks like I'm going to have to rescind everything negative I said about him generally (and not contained to the dreadful Sun Also Rises). Good book!
Also recently read a history of the Diodochi, or Alexander the Great's successors, the most famous being Ptolomy who set up his dynasty to rule Egypt for hundreds of years until Cleopatra ruined it. And just as an aside, she was a white Greek, so sorry every rapper ever especially Nas. Ptolomys also probably provided the inspiration for the Brother-Sister marriage tradition of House Targaryen because they totally did that. |

Re: Currently Reading
Read some good old easy pop reading last week - Matt Braun's Doc Holliday which was not bad at all, fun and quick. I've also been intermittantly going story by story through the original Conan the Barbarian stuff by Robert Howard. Each of the stories seems to start slow, but picks up nicely.
Just started last night on the ESPN book that came out last year. So far just reading the opening on the creation of the network, just how fly-by-the-seat they were with it all. They had some balls, to be totally honest. Fast and loose with other peoples' money and carefully bending the truth to get things started. Seems like it'll be a fairly interesting read all the way through. Also grabbed 4 Calvin n Hobbes books. Less for reading through front to back than just to have and skim on occasion. :P Coffee table stuff. They were in the bargain section for $5 apiece. Well worth it in my eyes.

Re: Currently Reading
FYI - The further I get into ESPN, the happier I am that I bought it. Fascinating read, definitely deserves the rave reviews it got last year.

Re: Currently Reading
I'm reading Faulkner's Snopes trilogy right now. The Hamlet, The Town, The Mansion. Good, but Faulknery. Wouldn't really recommend to non-fans. Not quite as round about as, say A Fable, but certainly not as straight forward as The Reivers or A Light in August. At least it isn't experimental like The Sound and the Fury, but I mean... retarded rednecks ****ing cows.

Re: Currently Reading
Finished Faulkner - Flags in the Dust. Pretty good IMO, don't know why it was heavily edited when he first tried to publish it.
Now reading a biography on Pushkin. |

I'm finishing up Oliver Onions' horror collection Widdershins, and am moving on to Thackery's Vanity Fair next.

Re: Currently Reading
I just got Richard B Morris' Alexander Hamilton and the Founding of the Nation, which I've been looking forward to for years - ever since I read his Seven Who Shaped Our Destiny way back in law school.
