Blink was okay. It's not as good as The Tipping Point. In Blink there are parts where you can tell he's reaching in his attempt to associate things to the general theme. I found myself just reading because I enjoyed his style of writing.

Damn....

This is a good *** book. The parts about Beli's childhood and the past in DR was kinda slow, but it helps add context to the family's history. Favorite fiction I've read all year.

Re: Currently Reading

People have been bugging me for years to read George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman Papers, and until last night I'd never got around to it. But I had a discount coupon for Borders, was bored, and in need of new reading material. So I bought this book last night...

So far I can't put it down. The conceit is that Harry Flashman is the character called Flashy in that dreary 19th century boys' book, Tom Browne's School Days (by Thomas Hughes), narrating the tale of his life sometime in his 80s. Fraser takes a cardboard cutout of a character and turns him into a first rate scoundrel. The narrative starts with his last scene in Hughes' novel (his expulsion from school for drunkenness), and his softening the blow for his father by requesting a career in the military. And his convincing his father it might be a wise idea to buy his errant son a commission by sleeping with his father's young mistress. It's meticulously researched and exceedingly funny. Not the least of it the scrapes that Flashman gets himself into. For example, ending up posted to India on the eve of the Afghan War, and actively toadying his way onto a general staff so that he can avoid combat, only to find that he's been assigned to the staff of General Elphinstone, commander of the Army of the Indus, in Kabul.

Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath

Its a handbook on various personality traits and probably the most extensive one I have seen so far. Basically it breaks down personalities and how you can work with them to achieve optimal results.

Now I know why no matter how much I argue or try to convince certain people, they never budge. Especially in politics, you can see why certain groups of people form their opinion on the parties and their ideology.

Re: Currently Reading

I was on a reading tear until life took its big boot and kicked me directly in the ***. I'm about halfway done with The Things They Carried. I think when I'm done with it I'm going to start Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy and read All the Pretty Horses

Re: Currently Reading

I'm currently reading Twilight. The movie looked badass, figured I'd read the book. Only like 150 pages into it seeing as I just started it today at work (haha slow day!), but it seems good. It's a tad girly, but it is romantic book of sorts. I really like it so far, hopefully it stays good. I believe it's part of a series, so I'll probably read those when I'm done.

Reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

Only about 50 pages in, seems like an amazing book.

I guess you could say I am currently watching that also. Its supposed to be a web comic, but they have infused elements from the new movie to tell the story. Pretty cool.

Roberto Bolano's The Savage Detectives just knocked me on my ***. I'm probably going to pick up "How Fiction Works" by James Wood for some light reading before jumping into Bolano's 2666 during the holidays.
