Karl said he never felt any ill will toward Pierce and believes the Spain game may have left a misimpression that the coach did not consider Pierce a team player. According to Karl, the Spain game was used to reward players like Jay Williams and Raef LaFrentz, who did not get a lot of minutes throughout the tournament.
