GAME 54: Celtics (27-26) at Lakers (26-24)

Gary Payton is playing in his first game against Team Kobe since being dealt to the other coast during the offseason. Payton is also a single steal away from passing Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks for third in all-time steals.

Now here's a fun fact for you. The Lakers website makes your mouse look like the McDonald's arches, which changes to the Laker logo when you're about to click on a link.

As for their season performance, the Lakers have been led by shooting guard, coach, and GM Kobe Bryant. Kobe has averaged 27.8 ppg to go with 6.2 rpg and 6.6 apg, as well as 1.4 spg. However, Kobe is averaging 4.44 tpg and shooting just 41% from the field. Lamar Odom is the second scorer with 15.7 a night and a suprising 10.3 rpg. Odom is also blocking a shot per night and shooting 47.5% from the field. Caron Butler has performed well (and could be moving on to Utah). The former UConn man has averaged 14.6 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Old friend Chucky Atkins has played well in a starting psotion this year with 13.7 ppg and 4.5 rpg. Atkins is the only player who has started in all 50 of the Lakers' games this season. Chris Mihm has shown flashes of brilliance with 10.4 ppg and 6.9 rpg, while blocking 1.6 shots a game and shooting 52% from the field. Off the bench, Brian Cook has done well in his second season with 7.5 ppg and 3.6 rpg in just 18 minutes a night. Jumaine Jones has also done well with 6.8 ppg and 5.1 rpg.

Our green clad gentlement of sport will be looking for any degree of success as this is the first of four games on a western road swing that will send us over to Denver, Utah and Phoenix by Sunday. The following weak isn't much better as a home date with Charlotte is surrounded by the Lakers and the T-Wolves. A win in this game would be huge heading into this challenging stretch.

Kobe looked good during the all-star game and seems fully recovered from his injury a while back. Can't wait to see how Allen plays Bryant.

The Nets just lost, Knicks lost, the Celtics have the chance to open up the race.

Re: GAME 54: Celtics (27-26) at Lakers (26-24)

11-11 with just under 8 minutes left. Paul Pierce scored our first six. Tony Allen is on the bench in foul trouble already, as is Chucky Atkins for the Lakers.

Caron Butler has the flu and will be out of this game.

Lamar Odom just picked up his second personal, which brings Brian Cook into the game.

Our inability to rebound cost us this game

What a disappointing loss. This isn't the Celtics team we saw coming into the break.

I can understand getting beat up on the glass by a team like Detroit, but to allow the Lakers to out rebound us by 22 boards just blows my mind. If Betty Rubble played for the Lakers, Blount wouldn't be able to box her out.

Chris Mihm was the one that killed us on the glass too. That just blows my mind.

I liked Mihm much better than Blount when both were with the C's last year and was really hoping that they would keep Mihm instead of Blount. Looks like it's obvious now which one is better. Mihm still gets into foul trouble a lot, but he is much more effective than Stone Hands.

Every time we have played LA this year, the Nets have been killed by Mihn, he has really turned the corner.

Horrible, just horrible! To get beaten on the boards like this is unacceptable!

I don't understand why Perk only played 3 minutes when we were getting anhilated on the boards so bad....he should have played more, he's our best rebounder and Blount was completely inneffective so what would it have hurt

Phew, so falling asleep at 11 was a good thing....

whiterhino, I think Perk played only 3 minutes because he picked up 2 fouls in them. I think Doc was mad at him about the fouls.

Oh, Ricky Davis is the best mid-range shooter in the league.

Oh, I didn't know that...I fell asleep too (hate those darn west coast games)...well he still should have put him back in at some point because Blount just doesn't rebound anymore and Raef can't get them all by himself.
