He doesn't say it, but according to the article he kind of hints that he'd rather stick with the current squad. Payton has been a tremendous addition to this team, but I wonder if he returned to the team can the Celtics sustain four people, the other three being Ricky, Paul and Antoine, who command the ball so much.

That surprises me for Paul to say that, I always thought he liked GP and was a good assit to the team, I'm not so sure he means it?

I don't think you can read much into this. Paul & Antoine are BEST FRIENDS along with being teamates for years....of course he's THRILLED to have Toine back but I don't think that's anything against GP. Before the trade deadline he made a plea to KEEP GP. GP is a FUTURE HALL OF FAMER, that is something neither Paul or Antoine can say at this point...so yeah he is going to be considered a teacher and a mentor but Paul said he learned a lot from GP and that as long as he is in green he will continue to learn from him and I think that is a GOOD thing.
Let's face it, after Reggie Lewis died this franchise was a mess. When they drafted Antoine and then Paul....they had to teach themselves and lead themselves. Of course they had coaches (some terrible ones in the beginning) but they didn't have other All-Stars on the team to teach them and they SURE didn't have future Hall of Famers. GP's presense gives them this now, maybe it's late in coming but it's nice to have all the same.
