LaFrentz sheds hurt look: C's center healthy, and playing like it

Quote:
Del Harris, the Methuselah of NBA assistant coaches, broke into a broad smile Wednesday night at the sight of Raef LaFrentz walking down the FleetCenter hallway.

The Dallas assistant was on board during LaFrentz' injury-plagued stint with the Mavs and understood the significance of the Celtics center once again being a night-to-night starter.

``It's good to see you getting down the floor without hurting,'' Harris said, to which LaFrentz merely replied with a quiet nod.

These days, there is a knock-on-wood tone whenever LaFrentz discusses his durability. As his personal health history has shown - he's had surgery on both knees - there's no telling what the next week will bring.

But there's also no denying that LaFrentz, with 11 regular-season games left starting tonight in Atlanta, made a significant comeback this season.

He has played in 70-of-71 games this season (all starts) and is second only to the Celtics' trio of iron horses - Paul Pierce [news], Ricky Davis and Mark Blount [news], who all have yet to miss a game.

LaFrentz has already played the fourth-most games in his seven-season career, with 81 games with Denver in 1999-00 his high mark, followed by a pair of 78-game seasons, including Denver in 2000-01 and again split between Denver and Dallas in 2001-02, the second highest.

``I'll tell you one thing about him - he plays hurt,'' said former Celtic Eric Williams, who played with LaFrentz in Denver.

The rap on Raef has always been that he's soft but he plays hurt, did for quite some time last year before it was revealed he needed surgery. You got to say, he gives it his all whether he's 100% or 5%.

Eric Williams...Man dont I miss him...But on the other hand it would be a huge blow to the celtics if we were to loose Lafrentz for an extended period of time.
