Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
How would you rate PP to other shooting guards in the league? Like Bryant, T-Mac, Carter... or even to his own teammate Ricky Davis?

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
He is the best in the leauge.
Most of them may be more athletic then Paul, but he posses the overall domination of the guard position. He can shoot, create his own shot, shut down basically any player you put in front of him, Get by and player who guards him,go to the hole and draw the foul and finish. He can look up the floor to find the running men, passing has improved drastically over the years. It is not his fault he puts the team on his back sometimes, he has been being discrimanated for not doing it for the last year. Habit. If I could choose a guard to lead my team, P2 is my man...

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
Give me Davis over Pierce any day. Ricky plays with fire every time he's on the court and while he may drive you crazy from time to time you at least know he's giving it his all.
I can't stand Kobe Bryant but he's head and shoulders above Pierce in talent. T-Mac, VC, and Pierce are all in the same category in my book...talented, underachieving, whinining, primadonnas Pierce has gotten more selfish each year and is one of the laziest players on the team.
Right now, compared to the other shooting guards in the league, Pierce probably just barely squeaks into the top 5, but there are some young guys that are rising fast and if he doesn't get his head together and start playing like he is capable he'll be lucky to be in the top 10 in the next year or two.

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
pierce has the talent to be the best but his drive hasnt been there since the first time walker left...i have seen some of that drive come back since they got toine back but it still doesnt seem to be the same...hopefully he gets his mind together for the playoffs and can turn himself into the best sg out there, since kobe wont be in the playoffs...but i think the only 2 that have legit arguments to be better than pierce at his best are kobe and tmac...kobe is a given, and tmac is the best offensive guard ive ever seen

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
I wouldn't even consider Pierce a shooting guard. He's a small forward.

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
hey only plays sf this yr cuz theur best lineup is with toney allen or ricky as the 2...hes still mainly a 2 tho...he can play sf but antoine can too and hes primarily a pf...2's do more dribbiling that 3's and i think it can be agreed that pierce dribbles alot..too much at times

Pierce is a small forward
Ask any coach or anyone who knows basketball, and they'll tell you Paul is playing the 3. What do we do the first play of every game? Throw it to Paul on the block.
Who is Paul guarding? Usually the three. Look at his rebounding, etc.
Tony Allen and Ricky Davis are the SGs on this team.
That said, Ricky is a very good player. But he wouldn't be doing half as well if he had the Artests, Bowens, etc. guarding him. Davis always has an easier matchup; the opposing coaches know Paul is more dangerous. Ricky is a better midrange shooter, to be sure, but he cannot attack the basket like the small forward, Pierce can. Nor does he rebound at all.
Kobe's a nice little player...on a lottery team. I think the Lakers might be rethinking their decision now....but it is too late.

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
your right, guys definitely a 3. also i think he has the all-around talent to be among the best but the guy gives lackadasical effort so im starting to get annoyed sometimes when i see him jog or walk up the court.

yes paul is PLAYING the 3...but naturally he is a 2...the only reason he is PLAYING the 3 is because we have ricky and tony allen...

look where it says "position: G" that means guard and hes definetly not a pg...so that leave SG or "2"...i wont argue with nba.com

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
He's settling for bad mid-range jumpers instead of cutting and looking for a pass en route to a layup or a foul. Paul used to be the best at drawing fouls after drives. Now he doesn't really iniate contact; he just assumes the refs going to give him the call (which usually they do). We've been saying this for two to three years now. In my opinion, the Celtics need to re-asses Pierce's value to the team.

Pierce has always been a 3
We drafted him as a SF, and he has primarily been one...he moved to the 2 when Eric Williams was here.
Perhaps NBA.com didn't update it...by the way, don't use them as an authority on everything, I've seen mistakes.

Re: Rating Pierce vs. Other Shooting Guards...
Top 5 in legue for sure!
T-Mac is better and so is Kobe but still very good, but I think Pierce is more clutch than T-Mac...
Heres a link to compare any player in the league to Paul...
