Walker Keeps Fighting
Knee Still Painful for Antoine
Quote:
MILWAUKEE -- Not one to complain, Antoine Walker (17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) continues to play with his left knee at less than 100 percent. That was painfully obvious several times during the game as Celtics team masseuse Vladimir Schulman rubbed down the knee to loosen it up. Still, Walker played without a protective rubber sleeve on his bruised knee for the second night in a row, but admitted he doesn't have full range of motion in the joint. He cannot bend his left leg all the way back. The power forward is also working to regain his timing after missing three games with the injury.
``I want to get my timing back and play basketball the way I'm capable of playing,'' said Walker. ``Any time you get hurt, it's always a setback to a certain degree. The good thing is I was able to come back fast and have some games left to perform in and produce. I'm looking at these games as a chance for me to get ready and also, in the process, build team confidence.

Re: Walker Keeps Fighting
Now that we have made the playoffs, I say we cut his minutes, not severly but enough to insure the fact he will be around 100% around playoff time.

Re: Walker Keeps Fighting
Personally,
I would sit him until he is 100%. Unless Doc is really gunning for a particular match up in the playoffs and feels the team needs to win a certain number of games to get that match up, I would opt to have him rest and be 100% come playoff time.

Re: Walker Keeps Fighting
No way, he needs to play. I do not want to take on every team on the read. That would be a horror.
The best way for him to get back in shape and playing to the way he's capable is through games, not scrimmages, not practices, no workouts.

Re: Walker Keeps Fighting
Anyone else starting to think that this is more than just a bruise? I'm starting to think that.
We should just be lucky that we have something other than Pierce and a one legged Walker (again) this time around.

that's why I say sit him and let him get healthy. I don't want to see another series circa Jersey 03' where toine is hobbled. Even though we have more 'parts' this time around, whether we have the home court or not doesn't really matter if toine isn't 100%. He needs to be able to play 35 mins a night pain free in the playoffs if we are going to make any noise. If I was Doc, I would be very cautious in the minutes I gave him for the rest of the regular season and if necessary, shut him down for another week.

Re: Walker Keeps Fighting
We're still fighting for the Atlantic and home-court. Let him play! Game experience would be the best rehab for him, in my opinion.

Antoine said himself that his timeing is off, if we shut him down for a week, then we won't even know if he'll come back to half of what he's capable off. He maybe even worse than he is with the injury...

Oh god half of what he is capable of?
That means instead of shooting 12-30 he'll shoot 6-30 with even worse shot selection?

Have you been watching Antoine play this year, or you still watching tapes of 2-5 years ago?
(I win)

I can appreciate that, but I'd rather err on the side of being healthy than that of timing. I just don't want to see him hobbled in the playoffs like he was back in 03'. he had absolutely no explosiveness or lateral quickness then and was completely ineffective because of it. All I'm saying is if I were Doc, I would be very cautious with the minutes I gave him.

I'm not arguing about the minutes, I actually encourage that (Al, Perk will get more ready for the playoffs this way), but it would be a bad idea to not let him play at all and not keep fighting his way back through real NBA competition.
