Prospects not working out for the Celtics?

The Celtics' preparation for the draft continues today when four players - including Boston College center Nate Doornekamp - are welcomed to the club's Waltham facility for workouts.

Florida power forward David Lee, Arizona guard Salim Stoudamire and Illinois guard Luther Head are also scheduled to show their skills. Overall, however, the process of getting people to come in is becoming increasingly difficult.

The Celtics have three picks in next month's draft - one first-rounder (No. 18) and two second-rounders (Nos. 50 and 53) - and it seems most players believe they're ticketed for bigger things.

"`Agents don't want their guys to work out for us because they think they're all going to be lottery picks,'' said C's director of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

"I was talking to Kevin (McHale, Minnesota's director of operations) and we decided that from what we've heard there are going to be 20 guys taken in the first 10 picks of the draft. It's funny, but agents think they can impact the draft by not having their guys work out for certain teams outside of the top 10.''

The issue is widespread, and it could be even more acute in the coming draft if it is to be the last without some sort of collectively bargained age limit. The number of available players could swell the ranks of potential draftees, leaving more players out in the cold this June.

Celtics working out prospects

Supposedly we are working out Salim Stoudamire, Luther Head, David Lee, and Nate Doornekamp.

I wouldn't use our First Round pick on David Lee.
But I would be willing to use our second round on him.
He's really good around the basket.
But must develope his jumper.
Great rebounder for his size too.
Killed me when they beat KY last year in the SEC Tourney.

P.S .. Wasn't he in the dunk contest a few years back ?
