Green, Gomes answer questions on Celtics.com
Green:
Quote:
Celtics Beat: Do you know much about the Celtics history?
Green: I know a little, but we don't have cable at home so I haven't seen too much of the Celtics...I've seen the Celtics is on ESPN Classic when I'm in the hotel. I said I've watched Larry Bird and Bill Russell. I forgot to mention Danny, so I hope he's not mad me.
|
Quote:
Celtics Beat: Were you one of those high school players who was a lock to declare for the draft all season or did you have to think about it?
Green: Not at all, I definitely had to think about it. It actually went down to the wire with me...I really wanted to go to college and committed to Oklahoma State. I actually want to take classes while I'm in the NBA and get my degree, if I don't I'll have to answer to my mom and that won't be fun.
|
Quote:
Celtics Beat: Do you think this will be a good situation for you since you're the third high school player the Celtics have taken in three years?
Green: I think it will. I know "Big Perk" a little since we're both from Texas so that should help. I also think their staff knows how to handle high school players which is important.
|
Gomes:
Quote:
Celtics Beat: What was it like picking out a jersey number with all of those retired numbers?
Gomes: Wow that was rough. I wore #3 in college and that's gone, so at first I went with #4, and that's what they had on the jersey today. But, I think I might go with Ainge's #44. I asked him if I could wear it and he said I could. So, I think I might change to that.
|
Quote:
Celtics Beat: Are you worried about being a Yankees fan in Boston?
Gomes: I am a Yankees fan, but hopefully the fans in Boston won't hold that against me. I'm thinking that if I play hard for the Celtics and contribute then maybe I'll get away with it.

Re: Green, Gomes answer questions on Celtics.com
I heard an interview on the radio last Friday with Ryan Gomes and the kid now has me in his corner 100%. He was polite, respectful, intelligent and said all the right things. The interviewer gave him a chance to knock high school kids coming out early and he didn't giving them props for being that talented and saying he would have done it in their position too. The interviewer also gave him a chance to knock unproven foreigners that teams pick over proven college talent like himself and instead he said "this is not just an American game anymore, it's worldwide. There are many foreign born players in this league having fabulous careers, we can't look at it like that".
He was just totally professional and completely humble and I just loved it. I hope this kid plays for the Celtics for a long time he has great character.

Re: Green, Gomes answer questions on Celtics.com
I can't say I'm too familiar with Gomes game, but from the sounds of it, he reminds me some of Eric Williams, another Providence guy and a personal favorite. Is this accurate?

I think so as well not sure what others think but I think it is pretty accurate. They both like to shoot even with there size neither really had a true position, and I think both will (were) solid players in the league. That is just me

Very good post scorer. Worked on an outside shot. I think he'll play the 4, wingspan of 7'2". Not exactly very similar to Eric Williams.

Re: Green, Gomes answer questions on Celtics.com
Gomes is a better offensive player, although Eric Williams played in a Big East where Allen Iverson, Kerry Kittles, Lawrence Moten and Ray Allen were practically guaranteed all-BE first team and yet he still made the team. Eric Williams before the injuries was very Gomes like, so if Gomes can be like Eric minus the injuries, I'd be ecstatic. Gomes was picked No. 50th for goodness sake (which was a travesty). There is no way in hell there were 23 better prospects then him, let alone 49.

I LOVE E!
Seriously, E-Will was the man. I hope we sign him so he can be on our championship team and get a ring...or that he goes to the Spurs...either way one of us will win.
