Pierce pleading to participate for Team USA?
Quote:
Though Paul Pierce hasn’t yet called USA Basketball chief Jerry Colangelo in an attempt to lobby for a position on the Olympic team, he’ll make the bid soon.
“This week,” he said. “I’m probably on (Colangelo’s) third list. That’s the guys-he-doesn’t-call list — the guys who have to call him.”
|
Personally, I don't think Pierce's game fits better for FIBA basketball rules than somone like Gilbert Arenas and Kobe Bryant who would make teams play man-to-man. With Pierce's failure to win the gold at the World Championship's in 2002, it doesn't seem likely that Colangelo will accept him over a player like Rashard Lewis, who is someone that would fit better with their projected team. Pierce can shoot, yes, but is he worthy of being on Team USA?

Yeah, Pierce is worthy of being on team USA. He is one of the best in the NBA. He deserves a chance to redeem himself, and he would if he made the team, mark my words...

Question is, where all those guys send after him worthy?
Pierce was very immature a few years ago, I remember him playing tricks on all the rookies, every year.
This season, if anything, should give Pierce a second chance to show that it wasn't only his fault the last time he was there.
The way he's playing right now, he definitely deserves it.

Agreed agreed agreed...
Pierce is playing amazing basketball right now AND the sourpuss Pierce seems to be dead. He deserves a a spot on the team and second chance.

He does if he does not play like he did in 2000, he was quite a selfish ball hog

Re: Pierce pleading to participate for Team USA?
Pierce certainly deserves it, but I'll wager infinity billion uCash points that he won't be on it.

I remember it too. Pierce was taking the rap hard for not winning the medal...I've been a C's fan for quite some time now, so that's why I remember...

I doubt you'd see that. And quite honestly, if there are any repeat players, you won't see THEM play like they did in 2,000.
In Pierce's case, he's playing BETTER and has a much better attitude.
He deserves a chance.

Re: Pierce pleading to participate for Team USA?
Last year he went against his coach Doc Rivers who is trying to institute a transition game for the Celtics. He was benched for not running and rightfully so. This kind of impression sticks with coaches. Other coaches around the league and Coach K remember. He has to change for him to be a contributer to a winner, otherwise he is a hinderance.

Re: Pierce pleading to participate for Team USA?
And you don't see the change this year?
I do.
He's trying to mentor the young players and be a good leader. He and Doc have said they've come to an understanding.
Now if he pulled an Artest or a Kobe, I could see what you're saying, but he's made a big change in his attitude and I still say he deserves a spot.
