It is less clear whom the Celtics would receive from the Grizzlies for Blount, if they went that route. Lorenzen Wright, a 6-11 center, might be one possibility because he is in the last year of his contract. Although the salary numbers work, one source said 6-8 Memphis forward Brian Cardinal is not a candidate.
The Celtics reportedly tried to deal Blount to Memphis last offseason. Memphis was one of the teams that aggressively pursued Blount when he was a free agent.
After an extremely disappointing 2004-05 season, Blount and his agent Mark Bartelstein talked with coach Doc Rivers and executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge last summer. Blount arrived at training camp determined to reclaim the form he showed when playing for his current six-year, $40 million contract -- a contract with a 15 percent trade kicker.
Blount was in the starting lineup for the first 11 games this season. But his inconsistent play, particularly on the glass, led Rivers to demote Blount to the bench. Blount did not play (coach's decision) Nov. 25 against Charlotte, and he has bounced between the bench and the starting lineup.
In yesterday's 94-84 loss to the Pistons, Blount scored 12 points (6 for 11) and grabbed 3 rebounds in 31 minutes as the first player off the bench. He also led the Celtics with 4 turnovers. For the season, he is averaging 13.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.2 turnovers in 29 minutes per game.
If the Celtics complete a deal for Olowokandi, it would put them in a much better position financially. Blount is making $5.5 million this season and has four years remaining on his deal; Olowokandi, who is making close to $6 million, will become a free agent this summer.
The Celtics could waive Olowokandi, who is averaging 6.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 24 minutes per game.
If a third team becomes involved, one source said, Marcus Banks appears a likely addition.

I'm late to this discussion, but it's good for us. 
And who knows how Banks will play for another team if he actually has the support of the coaching staff?
Kandi is almost incidental here. Sweet, for getting us out of Blount's contract, and gone quickly. |

I still hate to lose Marcus but it's clear he'll never get to play enough here to make something of himself. I'm all for getting rid of Blount's contract (would rather it be Raef's) but Kandi better be gone at the end of the season, he sucks worse than Blount and considering he was a #1 overall draft pick and Blount was an end of the 2nd round pick that is saying something. Financially this deal frees up some money which we desperately need, we will have to re-sign Perk next year as next season will be the 4th and final year of his rookie contract and Al the year after.

It is a win win. We'll get rid of a awful contract in Blount and one of our two PG (Greene) and then we'll keep pretending that West is a PG because he can bring the ball up over the half court line (something JR Bremer is doing right now in Europe) and see a number of hustle plays, yet see this Three Headed Monster of Davis Pierce and West struggle to get a 30-win season.
Everything is just peachy in Celtic Nation.

im floating around the web and am seeing a possibility of:
minny, indy, and the c's ina deal in which we give up blount ricky and i would imagine a young guy and some picks and net artest and olawokandi....now obviously this is PURE SPECULATION, nothing to it, but the right package with the third team? this would be semi- complicated and i dont want to speculate anymore...

Blount's better than any other center on their roster. I'm sure they won't allow him to make as many mistakes as he makes here because they won't put the ball in his hands in the high post, unless it's to shoot.
