The Simmons article is irrational, in my opinion.

I actually enjoyed the Simmons piece and he is making me feel better about this....I slept on it and while I still am mad that Ricky is gone, it could have been worse....

Simmons makes some good points.
Wally's not as bad of a defender as he's made out to be. In fact he's probably just about as good...er...bad...as Ricky.
Offensively, he will stretch the floor, and I guess he works better in our offense than Ricky does, because Ricky and Paul pretty much were the same type of player, but this is going to be a wait and see thign.

Nobody's saying Szczerbiak is an All-NBA defender, but from watching him all this year, he has shown improved effort and he's definitely not as bad as his rep warrants.

"I think he is at a point in his career where he gets very distracted by having a hand in his face."

He has improved, yes. His 82games.com stat show that his effective FG% allowed is 47.8%. Ricky Davis was 48.2%
Now those numbers are possibly a little skewed because in Minny I'm sure Wally could get away with getting burned once and a while with KG and Griffin around the hoop to block some shots and all, so that eFGA% will probably be on the rise, but again it's going to be a wait and see thing.

Wally’s World Getting Crazy With Move to Boston
Steve Bulpett of THE BOSTON HERALD writes, "Forgive Wally Szczerbiak if his head is spinning as he arrives in Boston today. Not only is the 28-year-old forward making his first NBA move after 6 1/2 seasons in Minnesota, but there is also the matter of his wife being scheduled to give birth to the couple’s second daughter on Monday."

Re: Boston Media Reaction - Ricky Davis Trade (1/27)
Lant, even I must admit that's not the best statistic to measure defense. Much different from my view from the past, I don't believe there is a statistic that accurately represents ones defensive ability that doesn't contain many errors (eliminating defensive adjusted plus/minus). From what I've seen, Szczerbiak is a bad defender; often too slow to stay in front of his man. He doesn't always play hard and he doesn't know the right defensive mechanics. He'll have a hard time in Boston's defense making Kendrick Perkins or Raef LaFrentz having to challenge his man (a penetrating forward) and leaving the other (or Al Jefferson) with two guys in the post.
